4 Priming || Fate

Expecting my request, it answered:

[The request for retained memories and personality of an individual requires 3 {Tiers}]

That was…

"Expensive."

The price to maintain your ego was a lot, especially if you considered the actions that were required just to reach Tier 5 like I did. It required two notorious criminals: one that could ruin a country, and the other that could herald the destruction of civilization. I could only imagine what would be needed to reach the top.

Clearly, it was not something the system wanted to hand out to just anyone.

[Yes. It is priced accordingly to prevent the truly evil who manage to attain positive karma from retaining their character. The system, however, did not want to make this request impossible for those that are truly good, and who were a benefit to the progress of the various universes.]

In other words, the

ORDER

caters to heroes.

How typical.

[You are a rare case.]

"…Are you calling me evil?"

[In accordance with the moral integrity we studied from the majority of your race and world's standards: Yes.]

Well…

I knew that already.

"Ok, I would like that. What can I get for my remaining Tiers?"

ORDER

didn't respond.

I was about to ask again, when a flood of categorized information began to download into my mind.

There were many amazing things in there from legendary weapons, to familiar abilities, to a plethora of worlds with some that looked familiar to novels I'd read in the past.

The list seemed to go on forever, and I lost track of how much time had pa.s.sed since it all first entered my mind.

When I realized how long I had been searching, I retrained my focus back onto

ORDER

, who didn't seem phased by the long wait whatsoever.

[Have you come to a conclusion?]

"…I see things that are magic/energy related. It's just hard to grasp that there are worlds out there straight out of fiction and fantasy."

It was still difficult to grasp the reality of the situation. Then again, I was a spherical ball of light in a s.p.a.ce I never knew existed until I died.

…

I guess I really shouldn't be too surprised.

[It is only fantasy because you have never seen it. To other worlds, that is their reality and your world is fictional.]

[There are worlds that possess extra elements like magic, energy, ki, and more. You may choose to reincarnate to a location of your choice, but it will require 3 {Tiers}. One at random will only cost 1 {Tier}.]

That was unfortunate.

There were huge advantages to knowing what events perspired in the future if you chose to reincarnate in a world you were familiar with.

Then again, it wouldn't be very entertaining to stick to some script. I preferred to pave my own way; it's what I did before.

Dealing with the unexpected and going with the flow of things; that is the way to live.

I decided on the random fantasy world.

"Hmm…any recommendations for what I should request for my last tier?"

Who better to ask than an omnipotent being that literally determines your fate? I may pride myself in wit, but I'm not so challenged as to believe that I could match up to what may as well be "G.o.d."

I only had 1 Tier left, so there weren't many things I could ask for that could be considered a cheat.

Not that I would've, anyways.

[It may be prudent to select a weapon, or a combat proficiency. You have survived on your world through your intelligence, but there is a limit to that in a "Fantasy" world.]

"How so?"

[The way your world functioned "completely" on Science, instead of additional properties like magic/energy, is in the minority. Your type of world only makes up 9% of all existing universes.]

My mind was blown.

[In "fantasy" worlds, 87% of their government or positions of power are decided through "might."]

[With your current intelligence, along with the retention of your memories, you are 100% guaranteed to be proficient in magic/energy cultivation. What will need to be developed is your combat.]

That made sense.

I did train in martial arts as a hobby up until my murder. Not for any righteous reasons, of course; things like self defense, protecting the weak, or self-betterment.

I just wanted to know the best way to hurt someone.

That being said…

"So, which of the two would you say is better?"

[Requesting a soul-bound growth weapon would prove beneficial in the long run. Combat proficiency can be developed through time, but having a reliable weapon is more difficult to come across.]

"That makes sense to me. Any ideas of what would be best for me?"

[In consideration for your character being: Controlling, oppressive, possessive, and s.a.d.i.s.tic in nature, {Soul-Bound: Chains} would be fitting.]

It described me well.

"Chains," I said. "Sounds great, but you don't see it being used when fighting much. Wouldn't swords, daggers, or other staple 'fantasy' weapons make more sense for combat?"

[Any weapon is a good one in the right hands. Our decision was also based on your dislike for normality.]

It seemed the glowing G.o.d-orb knew me better than my own friends.

"You're seriously awesome. I really wish I could take a floating Wikipedia like you with me."

[We are aware that our presence inspires 'awe' in others. Your {Tier} is to low to have us accompany you.]

Wait.

"That's an option? What level would I need to be at?"

For the first time since I arrived in Limbo, I felt something outside of just mechanical speech. It may seem unnoticeable to most, but

ORDER

paused a fraction of a second longer and there was a weird feeling of…

Hesitation.

…

How fun.

[Having an

ORDER

accompany you as a personal a.s.sistance system requires 6 {Tiers}]

That was unfortunate.

To utilize it to the fullest, that would mean I'd have to be at the max level possible: Tier 9.

6 of the Tiers would be used for the system capabilities, while the remaining three would be used to retain my memories and ego.

…

Brain blast.

"If I die, I'd be seeing you again, wouldn't I?"

[…]

It didn't need to say anything, because I knew.

I probably wasn't the first person to have this thought; A way to abuse the system.

As long as I retained my memories, I will have knowledge of everything that was discussed with

ORDER

.

Knowledge that would be useful should I die.

Knowledge of the methods behind gaining "positive" karma in order to achieve a higher Tier for greater benefits in the next.

Who wouldn't take advantage?

"

ORDER

, how do I achieve Tier 9 status?"

[Cla.s.sified.]

…

Well, I could probably do the math. It'll probably have to be something on the scale of a universe, or saving a multiverse.

I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.

"Thanks for the second chance,

ORDER

. I think I'll be on my way…wherever that is."

[Understood. Do not waste the chance you've earned, {Soul} Julius R. Krishna.]

My orb soon began to dust away in particles of light as

ORDER

started to fade as well.

"I won't. I'll enjoy myself to fullest."

And for the second time, my vision faded to black.
