I felt both my head and heart to be frozen in the situation developing in front of me. There was no time to procrastinate, so I quickly checked my arms.

'Okay. You're doing fine.'

I took out a small light object. It was a dagger requested to be carried by Jean in case of emergency just before we departed. I've been carrying it for self-defense since day one.
