Chapter 30.2: Returning Home With Riches and Honor

His ideals were too far fetched.

His mother quickly slapped his head before heading inside to prepare the family a nice afternoon meal that'd fill their belly full.

She attempted to invite the two knights over for lunch, but they refused vehemently as they stood guard outside eating their large cake prepared earlier for lunch.

It could be seen as a sort of respect, but to a certain extent, Shen Lang felt it to be a kind of alienation. They were unwilling to get too close to him. Though they'd sacrifice their lives to protect him, it did not mean they respected him. In truth, the knights despised Shen Lang in their hearts. While these feelings remained, he'd never be able to command those two. The thought troubled him so.

But Shen Lang refused to bend over backwards and stoop low to gain their favor.

They don't want to come in and have a nice meal? Fine. Let them eat unhealthy cakes outside and do as they like.

When his mother got up to prepare tea for the family and the guests, Shen Lang b.u.t.ted in and refused. Only the Shen Family will drink the tea. Outsiders be d.a.m.ned.

He has heart, yes, but he's weak physically. He'd need to overcome this dilemma through wits. Fawning up to them won't do him good. At critical moments, he needs his people to rush out without hesitation after hearing his orders.

And if he wants anything done, why have him do it himself? He'll send someone to do it on his behalf.

It'd be embarra.s.sing to everything by himself and let his people stand idly by.

Loyalty is the most important thing when there aren't too many people serving under you.

Thereafter, Shen Lang boiled the herbal medicine and gave it to his father; and next, he smeared the tonic on the parts of Shen Jiang's broken leg before tying the clothing strip around the broken leg.

They smiled all throughout, greedily enjoying Shen Lang tending their injuries greatly.

Their Shen Lang turned out to be filial and sensible.

Everything is good…

As the sun gradually set in the west, Shen Lang formally bid his goodbye and prepared to return back to the Count's Palace.

The mother's eyes were tearful, but she was full of smiles as she watched her son leave.

"Lang'er, your friend, Da Sha, you should go see him. He's not doing well. The situation isn't good…"

Shen Lang's mother could not spout the words to his son. An earnest favor must be returned. She recalled Da Sha was the only one who befriended and protected Shen Lang at an early age. She was thankful for that.

As Shen Lang journeyed to Da Sha's house, many of the villagers turned their heads towards his direction and hid behind their doors to watch the unfurling event.

Their eyes towards him were somewhat complicated.

Unexpectedly, Shen Lang, the wastrel trash flew high above the heavens and became the Count's son-in-law.

This fool who they once looked down from high above no longer dared to. He's become a giant while they sat at the bottom legs of the society.

Thinking of this, a feeling of envy, jealousy, and hatred rose in their heart, but however, when Shen Lang looked at their faces, they quickly donned a flattering smile.

As they placed a mask of goodwill, they maliciously speculated that the fool had been expelled from the Count's Palace thus his sudden return. He was expelled previously from the Xu Family house before so it's possible the same thing occurred.

These villagers lived a simple life, but they were too malicious. They have compa.s.sion, but they don't want others to live better than them. The best occasion would be for the other party to be worse off than them. Occasionally, they would help out to satisfy their kindness and bring about a sense of self-achievement.

Shen Lang remained ostentatious. He had no intention of stopping to greet these sort of people who look at one another with smiles full of warmth, but in truth held treacherous intent behind those innocent look.

Besides, he's a n.o.ble. He needs to act the part.

Shen Lang and his family had always been an outsider in this small village. No matter how much they tried to befriend the people of Maple Leaf Village, they were always locked out of their homes.

And why bother? Their firstborn son was a trash and their second born a scoundrel. So they looked down on them — isolated and bullied them whenever the chance showed itself.

Growing up, foolish him had been picked on over and over without stop. He remembered Da Sha would always use his body to s.h.i.+eld him from the hurling stones.

And like Shen Lang, Da Sha had a low leveled intelligence. In other words, Da Sha could be compared to Forrest Gump. He's simple and he'd always fight for what he believed in.

Da Sha had never been normal. When he was born, he weighed over twelve kilograms.

His mother died from childbirth. Maybe he blamed himself for the death of his mother. Who knows.

As Da Sha aged year after year, his physique soared to the heavens. Though he never had enough food to eat daily, he managed to grow to the size of a giant.

Shen Lang's not sure why he's different. His parents are far from the extraordinary.

Da Sha's daily food consumption exceeded the average person, but he'd need to work and labor twice as hard to pay off the food in his belly.

Fortunately, his hard labor hardened his infinite strength. In other words, he was endowed with talents and extraordinary strength.
