42 The First Day

Looking to his side he saw Rin, still sleeping. After a short while though she eventually woke up too and looked towards Sora, Sora smiled.

So: "Mornin"

Sora jumped out his bed and began getting ready to leave, he couldn't exactly tell what time it was but his body was used to waking up early anyway, and he woke up earlier than that today so he felt like it was about 1 hour before he had to leave.

Sora was thinking about a lot of things, his progress with the bow hadn't gone any further since his single day training with Leah, he didn't know who he was going to be in cla.s.s with and he still had no idea how the school even trained it's students - he could guess that it involved physical battles but that was it, he didn't know anything beyond that.

Sora sighed.

So: "Guess I'll find out"

Sora finished getting ready almost 15 minutes later, he still had about an hour and 45 minutes left.

So: "Waking up an hour early..."

The room was filled with all the essentials a student needed so food wasn't a problem, he quickly prepared breakfast whilst also preparing something else for Rin. Rin had been able to eat anything without damaging herself since and probably before she met Sora, so she was fine with anything, after eating they still had an hour and 15 minutes left.

So: "Man... what do we do... Rin?"

Rin looked up at him.

So: "What do you wanna do?"

Rin gave him a neutral expression.

So: "Figures, up to me to decide huh?"

Sora began thinking. It didn't take long for him to figure something out as he stood up and went outside to the field that hadn't been changed in any way since he last saw it, looking around his body for stress he figured that he could get in some light training. Rin stood behind him.

Sora summoned the bow once again, this time the bow seemed to slightly resonate with him more, only by the smallest margin, compared to Leah he was like a grain of sand. Transferring the aura to all the appropriate places he looked towards the target and fired once more.

As he was expecting the arrow flew straight past the target, completely missing it. But it was definitely closer than last time.

Sora sighed.

So: "Do I really need to be able to fire from this distance this early?"

Le: "Yes, you do"

Sora was surpised hearing the sudden voice in his head but immediately calmed himself.

So: "Well I've gotten better at least, but I'm still pretty far off"

Le: "Everyone is, for now you should just use what your comfortable with for your first day"

So: "Yeah, I was thinking the same. No harm in training for the next hour or so though"

Le: "Fair enough"

For the next hour Leah directed Sora in his training, she was extremely efficient as a teacher but Sora wasn't the fastest learner, so they went at an average pace. An hour pa.s.sed by quickly like this, before long Sora was beginning to slightly graze the target with just the surrounding force of the arrows.

Sora was lost in his training but was signalled by a voice behind him.

?: "Hey!"

Sora snapped out of his thoughts and looked behind him, it was Mana.

Ma: "Time to go soon, you ready?"

Sora looked back towards the target and unsummoned his bow, turning back around towards Mana. He then signalled Rin, who responded by running up to his shoulder.

So: "Alright, we're ready to go"

Mana seemed to charge up energy as small purple crackles of electricity began to circle around them.

Ma: "You may want to mentally prepare yourself, this isn't like the portal"

So: "Wh"

Before Sora could finish his surroundings immediately went black, in an instant being filled with a violent storm of purple thunder that surrounded him in the shape of a tunnel, a small circle of light he could see in the distance quickly filled his vision within a second.

The floating sensation that he had for less than 3 seconds had disappeared and was replaced with a clear marble floor, looking in front of him he saw a giant room, one akin to a lecture hall but with the stage at the front being much, much larger.

Looking around him he saw other students teleporting in, every time one did it would be a violent but instant flash of purple light, the light would disappear as soon as it landed and would leave behind a student or students, depending on whether or not they were a duo, trio or team above that number.

The amount of students here were quickly filling up, so Sora began walking towards the front, and found a seat in the middle that he took, most people went straight to the front but Sora didn't really care so he just found a seat that was free.

With the amount of students pouring in Sora just stopped paying attention and got lost in his thoughts, he looked around every now and again for someone that he knew but found that the crowd of students would be too huge to try anyway so he just gave up, even with aura it was difficult.

People who seemed familiar with each other were sitting next to each other and it seemed like very little of the candidates from his group were here, these students were either mostly the ones that had stayed here the year before or other races from the other candidate groups.

Before long the room was filling up and there was no sight of a teacher. Sora looked towards the front of the room with a bored expression, whilst Rin was busy looking around. Rin looked to the right of Sora and stared with a joyful expression, jumping off Sora's shoulder and moving down the seats.

Sora was surprised by this and looked to his right to see what Rin was doing, he was met with a girl, fully dressed in black who was smiling at him, Rin in her arms.

So: "Oh hi Emphillia! We're in the same cla.s.s!"

Em: "I guess so!"

With no one familiar in sight for both of them, even if they didn't have a deep connection they walked around for a day together, better that then to be in a cla.s.s with no one you know at all. As they sat next to each other Rin moved back to Sora, they began talking about their experiences before the school once more, as if finis.h.i.+ng their conversations from when they were exploring the school together.

The noise around them turned to a blur as they got lost in their conversations, over time the amount of people had built up to the point where the room was almost completely full, there had been some free seats around the room but they were rare, there was one seat free next to Sora.

As they finished their conversation they looked to the front and saw that there was still no teacher. The two were confused as ever since the first few students began appearing 15 minutes had pa.s.sed and if they had all arrived, wouldn't the most important person in the room also need to be there?

Sora looked in front of him towards the giant stage and leaned forward to ask a student in front of him.

So: "Hey"

"Huh?"

So: "You been here a long time?"

"I guess, why?"

So: "I'm new here, is the teacher always this late?"

"Oh, nah this usually never happens. First day?"

So: "Yeah, first day"

Sora leaned back and looked towards Emphillia.

So: "Yeah this shouldn't be happening apparently"

Em: "Well let's just wait it out"

Emphillia was currently petting Rin.

So: "Hm, well I guess that's the only thing we can do"

Sora, who was currently looking at Rin felt a light wind come from his left. Turning around he saw a familiar face.

?: "Sup"

Sora smiled.

So: "What's up Indy?"

In: "Nothing much, I was doing stuff at home and kinda got here late, but looks like I'm not the only one"

Indy looked towards the middle of the room.

Sora looked at the full room and just guessed the Indy teleported next to him.

So: "Well apparently this shouldn't be happening"

Indy nodded and after a slight pause said.

In: "Seen anyone else?"

So: "Nah, I haven't seen anyone else. Oh! Hey!"

Sora turned to Emphillia, who was confused.

So: "This is my friend Indy, he's pretty powerful"

Indy looked towards her.

In: "Oh I remember you, I saw you on the pillar evading a whole bunch of stuff"

Emphillia didn't know what Indy thought of her evading so she kept mostly quiet.

In: "It was pretty impressive to be honest, but you need to learn some kind of offensive moves"

Emphillia felt happy that he found it impressive but was almost immediately hit with the word 'offense', she slumped.

Em: "It's difficult for me..."

In: "That's why I said 'learn', that's what we're here for right?"

Indy smiled. Emphillia smiled back as she said.

Em: "I guess"

A sudden violet streak of lightning struck the front of the room, leaving a tall, violet haired woman at it's impact point. Sora immediately felt a familiarity with this woman, her aura was one that he had felt before, he even felt like he had directly met her somewhere before.

?: "Sorry I'm late, this whole teaching thing is new to me..."

The woman apologised but didn't seem to care about it, as if she knew either way she wouldn't be patronized by the other teachers or students.

?: "I'm your new physical teacher, call me Xion"

Immediately the students began to whisper between themselves.

"Xion? Like the Violet Singularity?"

"Nah, no way! We don't even know what she looks like. Besides, why would she be teaching here if she's stronger than even the headmaster?"

"Yeah you're right"

"She looks pretty strong though..."

"Yeah that lightning strike was no joke, purple is insanely hard to do"

"I can do purple!"

"No you can't you can only go up to blue you liar!"

"She seems pretty rude though..."

"No I just think shes too casual..."

"..."

"So rude?"

"Yeah I guess..."

Xion clapped her hands hoping to silence the crowd but the murmuring continued.

"Hey I think she want's us to be quiet"

"She was late, can't we be a little rude too? You can't show weakness with these guys"

"Nah we should probably st-"

Before the murmuring continued any further Xion stomped her heel onto the ground, creating a shockwave of electricity that immediately silenced the room, leaving a visible dent in the ground. Some students began sweating nervously, they knew that the floor that she had just left a dent in was extremely difficult to break, it was reinforced so as to survive some of the tests the other teachers would show.

Xi: "Now..."

Xion said with a smile.

Xi: "Shall we continue?"

Everyone had now been quiet.

Xi: "Great, okay. I know I arrived late but I was taking care of some things, as your physical teacher I will be training your bodies and techniques in order to fully maximize the power you can output whilst also minimizing the energy you need to input"

As of current, Xion only used a small fraction of her power in order to dent the ground but no one knew that.

Xi: "So, would anyone like to get tested personally?"

The surrounding students were confused.

"Personally?"

"What does that mean?"

"Yo go up real quick, I wanna see what she'll do"

"You're insane, I ain't goin up there"

"No go, I wanna see too"

"Why don't you go then?!"

"I don't wanna go up there"

Sora looked around then looked towards Indy, who shrugged, Emphillia didn't seem to know either.

So: "Well I guess someone's gotta do it..."

Just as Sora was about to put his hand up another student who seemed to have been pushed by his friends stood up.

"Um, what do you mean by personally tested?"

Xi: "Easy, I'm going to personally test your strength in a one-on-one battle against me, I'll only be using a fraction of my power though so it's purely a test of how strong you are currently"

The student immediately sat down.

"I don't wanna die today bro..."

"Yeah... smart choice..."

Sora put his hand up, shocking almost the entire audience.

So: "Someone has to do it..."

Xi: "Interesting, come down"

Sora looked towards Rin, who was still on Emphillia's lap and told her to stay. Sora stood up and ran down to the stage, walking would just make it awkward. Sora jumped up to the stage and stood in front of Xion.

So: "So... what do we d-"

Before Sora could talk any further she sped forward like a flash of lightning, all of the students were immediately blown back by her speed and all that followed was burst of purple lightning from the impact.

"He's dead dude..."

"That much power straight away?!"

The students went silent as they waited for the burst of purple lightning to dissipate, the impact created a faint dust cloud that had purple streaks of lightning flas.h.i.+ng inside it, as the cloud slowly disappeared the students waited, holding in their breaths. For all they knew a student could have died right in front of them.

As the cloud slowly faded they saw Xion, plunging her hand into the remaining dust cloud, in the cloud they saw the sillhouette of the boy who went up. The cloud fully faded a short while after, fully revealing that Sora had some sort of layer of translucent armor that was fully broken in the middle whilst everywhere else had cracked. Sora was using both hands to stop Xion's palm, just through this one exchange he had been heavily breathing.

So: "Well... I guess you wouldn't be a teacher for no reason..."

Xion was shocked. For a young boy to be able to stop her, even if she was only using a fraction of her power, it was definitely impressive. This initial test was to test his dark power, now she wanted to test his light power.

Xion put a slight bit of aura into her palm and created a small shockwave that broke Sora's grasp on her, her entire figure went purple and she began to dart around the entire lecture hall, looking as if she had merged with the lightning itself. The purple lightning shot towards the exhausted Sora.

"Isn't this too far for a test?"

"He's barely standing"

"Is she gonna do this for everyone?!"

As the purple lightning shot towards him Sora smiled and whispered under his breath.

So: "Lightspeed..."

Sora's entire figure, akin to what Xion just did, turned to a faint light that managed to nimbly dodge out of the way, jumping to a distant part of the stage Xion chased after him. The students were shocked that he could use light as well as darkness but the fight was happening so fast that they chose to think about it later. This only went on for a couple of seconds but to the students watching it felt like an eternity, especially those who could utilise aura to take in event he smallest details.

The speeding light was definitely slower than the purple light, only managing to avoid it by the slightest margins, eventually it had slowed in speed to the point that it could only be compared to an above-average running speed.

The faint light solidified back into the figure of Sora, who collapsed onto the ground, barely supporting himself with his hand on the ground. Kneeling like this the purple light solidified above him with Xion doing a midair kick downwards, as it was about to reach him the tension reached it's peak.

All the students watched this scene, completely silent.

As Xion came down on Sora a gigantic wall of ice formed between her and him, she easily broke through it but as she did, she saw that Sora was no longer where he used to be. As the ice crumbled from above her she looked behind her and saw Sora, back in a fighting stance with a cat on his shoulder.

So: "Thanks Rin..."

Sora was heavily breathing.

So: "Looks like I can't do this on my own after all..."

He began smiling as he went silent, seemingly sending a mental message to Rin.

Xi: "Oh? Is that your pet?"

Sora looked towards Xion with a determined look in his eyes.

So: "Nah... she's my partner"

Sora dashed forward once again as Rin jumped off of his shoulder, with Xion following suit, both turned into their respective purple and light forms as they sped around the stage. Sora was still evading her hits but was visibly more offensive than before, sometimes risking his own safety to get a hit in.

As they fought Emphillia noticed something and snickered. Indy looked towards her, confused.

In: "What's so funny?"

Emphillia looked towards Indy with a smile.

Em: "He told me about a friendly compet.i.tion he had with two friends in the past, and the strategy that he used. I can't believe he's actually trying it here"

Indy looked back at the arena and before long also began to smile.

In: "So that's what he's doing..."

The fight raged on top of the stage, as Sora slowed down his form once again returned to that of his physical state, Xion followed suit but was confused.

Xi: "Why did you stop running?"

Sora smiled.

So: "Cause we're ready! Rin!"

Xion immediately remembered something from watching Sora in the arena, before she could even move she was fully incased in a giant pillar of ice.

So: "Refraction : Disable"

Most of the students were shocked, others saw through his plan straight away but could understand why Xion couldn't - Sora was distracting her pretty well. Rin immediately appeared with a flash of light on Sora's shoulder - he fell to the ground, exhausted. Looking straight towards the pillar he sighed.

So: "Man... I really don't have a chance do I"

From inside the pillar of ice Xion smiled. With a slight burst of purple lightning the pillar of ice cracked then burst into pieces. Sora, who was on the ground just started laughing, this was a valuable experience for him, just being able to see Xion's movement, he saw that she wasted no energy - by applying what he saw to himself he may be able to improve.

Xi: "Well, for being so strong at such a young age you also know when to surrender. You pa.s.s"

Xion held her hand out to him, Sora took it and stood up.

Xi: "Through this test I've seen what you need to improve on, whilst you can abnormally use both light and darkness you have multiple wasted movements that your enemies will take advantage of. Also, you should have also noticed that I let that ice attack hit me, if you are able to calm your senses enough in a battle you'll notice everything"

So: "What? You let that hit you? Maaan... I got some work to do... Wait why did you let me hit you?"

Xion chuckled.

Xi: "I wanted to see what you would do, but your exhaustion caught up with you"

Sora sighed.

So: "Looks like you didn't even break a sweat..."

Xi: "Well, if I couldn't do at least this much I wouldn't be much of a teacher would I?"

Sora also chuckled.

Sora: "I guess, should I go back to my seat now?"

Xi: "Yeah, before you do, are there any healers in the room?"

Multiple people put their hands up.

Xi: "Alright, any of you who feel confident enough heal him please"

Multiple students flew to him and began healing him.

"That was really cool man!"

"Yeah, squaring off against a teacher on your first day?"

"How does that light and darkness thing work again?"

"Oh yeah, how do you do that? Is it illusion?!"

"Nah no way! That was way too real!"

Sora was bombarded with questions that he just answered with "It just happened when I felt like I was gonna die", it was a lazy answer but one that no one could really argue with, they weren't there after all.

As Sora's wounds got fully healed he went back to his seat.

In: "Good job man, h.e.l.l of a first day for you"

Sora sighed.

So: "Yeah..."

Sora thought about what his next few years would be like through just this first experience. And a s.h.i.+ver went down his spine.
