The health of Gu Mian's father had improved a lot, and Qiao Mu said that he could be discharged and continue recuperating at home. It was time for Qiao Mu to return to the country he came from too.

Tang Zui had promised to fetch Gu Mian's father from the hospital, but he had not shown up even though it was long past the time they agreed to meet. When Gu Mian's mother saw how nonchalant her daughter looked, she elbowed Gu Mian unhappily. “Mian Mian, what's up with you? Tang Zui promised to fetch your father from the hospital, but he has yet to show up. Why aren't you worried at all?”

“Ah? Why… why would I be worried? He might be unable to come because he has something to attend to. Let's not wait for him anymore and take our leave first,” Gu Mian said.

“You… Gu Mian, what have I been telling you ever since you were young? Since you are already married to Tang Zui, you must be a dutiful wife! Your husband has promised to fetch your father from the hospital, and it's already half an hour past the time we agreed to meet. How could you not be worried at all? What if he got into an accident on the way? Has this never crossed your mind?”

Gu Mian was rendered speechless. This had never crossed her mind indeed.

“Mother, I'm sure that this isn't the case. He probably has something to attend to,” Gu Mian said.

“You're seriously becoming more and more unreasonable. Take a look at yourself. As somebody's wife, is this how you should be treating your husband?” Gu Mian's mother was a little annoyed as she stared at her daughter.

 Gu Mian remained silent.

 “Give him a call now!”

“Okay, I'll go outside to make the call.” Gu Mian placed all of her father's belongings in a bag and zipped it. She then left the ward and gave Tang Zui a call.

Tang Zui answered the call after a few rings, but he did not say anything even after a while. Gu Mian had no choice but to break the silence. “Tang Zui, where are you? Didn't you promise us that you would fetch my father from the hospital? My family members have been waiting for you.”

“I have something urgent to attend to right now. I won't be able to make it,” Tang Zui said.

“I see. It's okay, then. I'll just tell them this,” Gu Mian said and was about to hang up.

“Gu Mian… Yun Xiaoxiao's life is in danger now… If you're…”

 “Alright.”

Before Tang Zui could finish speaking, Gu Mian immediately agreed. She knew that the young woman needed her blood.

Tang Zui froze. He did not know what to say either. Yun Xiaoxiao's condition suddenly deteriorated this morning, and he was trying to come up with ways to save her.

“I'll go to the blood collection room immediately. How much blood does she need?” Gu Mian's voice was extremely monotonous. She sounded totally calm.

“50ml would do. I'll head over too.” Tang Zui felt agitated and upset for some reason. This feeling was practically driving him crazy.

“I need to tell my parents that I'll be leaving first. I'll probably be there in about ten minutes,” Gu Mian said and hung up.

She stood rooted to the spot outside the ward for about a minute before she entered the ward and talked to her parents. After she exited the ward, she went straight to the blood collection room.

By the time Gu Mian arrived, Tang Zui was already there. He was smoking.

Gu Mian merely glanced at him before she lowered her head, as she did not know what to say to him either. She went straight to the blood collection chair, sat down and said, “You can start drawing my blood now.”

When the young nurse heard that, she immediately grabbed the needle and jabbed its s.h.i.+ny tip into Gu Mian's arm. Crimson blood flowed into the tube and then into a blood bag.

The young nurse only drew 50ml of Gu Mian's blood before she removed the needle. Gu Mian pressed a cotton pad on the puncture site to stop the bleeding. She knew that Tang Zui was fixing his gaze on her. She turned and said a little self-deprecatingly, “You don't have to worry. Since I owe you so much money, it's my duty to provide blood for the person you care about. I won't run away.”

When Tang Zui heard what she said, he felt a sharp pang in his heart. ‘Does she think that I'm looking at her because I'm worried that she would run away?'
