60 Chapter 60: Finally! A Proper Dungeon!

Then, a look of confusion pa.s.sed over her sleepy face, as she followed my arm down under her, and felt my hand... on her chest...

"I swear this was not my fault."

"...KYAAAAAH! KYOKU!"

*SLAP!*

***

So after a mild kerfuffle, I explained myself, and while Luna SAYS she believes me... she keeps shooting me these judgmental looks...

"...pervert."

My ear twitched, barely catching that murmur.

Breathe. Be calm. Move on.

"So shall we move on?" I injected false cheer into my voice, waving my hand to the slightly open door that was beginning to give me the w.i.l.l.i.e.s.

"Don't think I'll forget this."

Yeah... it'd be too nice if you did... haaah...

"It'd have been worth it I guess if there was a bit more there..."

I swear, I don't know what happened! I did NOT intend to mutter that aloud!

As I felt a sudden eruption of anger from the Neko behind me, I began to sprint for that door.

Yeah, my senses were telling me that door was off, but there was NO WAY it would be scarier than the lady behind me!

"CALL ME FLATCHESTED AGAIN YOU STUPID FOX AND I SWEAR I'LL KILL YOU!"

I jumped through the door, and found myself in a cavern.

A...really...really... big cavern.

Oh. Wow. Suddenly this looks like a proper Dungeon.

'What's going on?'

'...you don't think the blacksmith guy did that? Why?'

A certain angry cat girl came blasting through the opening, only to quickly draw up short seeing the sight before us.

'Yeah. I felt the same there.'

It was a cavern so big it stretched out into darkness, a dim light coming from below a grey mist hanging on the cavern floor. I could see spires of rock coming out of the mist, but not the actual ground or whatever was shedding what little light there was.

Stretching from where we stood, a sliding door that matched the one of the third test's building actually, a stairway stretched to a ma.s.sive suspension bridge of iron bars and chains, with oak planks making the floor.

And the bridge stretched, it connected with the... castle? Fortress? Think Legend of Zelda dungeon castle split into 3 pieces, as each piece was built on a separate 'island' of rock to dig out of the mist. All linked together by pa.s.sageways, bridges, and with the lights of many guards holding torches filling it all.

Oh yeah. This was a Dungeon.

'The aesthetic is nice, but in intimidation and grandeur, it fails as a Dungeon!'

's.h.i.+t really?'

Also... has anyone else noticed that the Dungeon sounds more and more feminine the more emotional it(she?) is? She sounded positively like an annoyed little girl just now.

Now filled with enthusiasm(?), I began to walk towards the drawbridge.

Luna looked at me. "What are you doing?"

I looked back, and shot a smile. "Dungeon raiding."

***

Luna stared, curious as to what the Fox was doing, the earlier incident forgotten.

"Dungeon raiding." He said, a cheeky and mischievous grin pasted all over his face.

'How do you intend to take on a full-sized, large scale dungeon? Do you see how many monsters are there just by the lights?'

He immediately began to run down the steps to the bridge, laughing as he said "the stylized mountain fortress will be mine!" As he went.

She gave a look to Fenrir, which was return by a "What do you expect me to do?", which was strangely obvious in his body language.

They both began to run down the steps to the awe-inspiring and fearful bridge, and the Fox ahead began leaping from plank to plank, as each had a gap between them, and he was laughing almost the whole time till he reached the middle.

'Alright... better get serious as I reach the end here.'

I noted that in terms of s.p.a.ce, this was huge, but portals to specific areas were few throughout this castle. Deep in the 3rd section, the farthest reachable part, I could feel the source of energy...

It was like the s.p.a.ce itself was flowing, driven by a heartbeat.

That source was the heartbeat of the mana and s.p.a.ce. Honestly even most with spatial awareness abilities would not notice, but my job cla.s.s directly deals with rhythms. If I don't notice something like that, I don't deserve to be a Demonic Tunist!

I crept to the end of the bridge with short hops between planks, and carefully crouched at the entrance to the fortress, peaking in to see a Minotaur with a large battle-ax, and a horn upon his hip, walking by on patrol.

'If he sees me, he'll blow the horn huh?'

Hmm... how to handle this one?

'We're underground so there isn't any wind flow... which means if I sneak up, he'll be able smell me within a certain range from any direction. So attacking from a distance. Need a spell that's instant, but silent and does not have a large light effect attached to it.'

'Yeah... fire and light are off the list. And I can't insta kill with dark right now. Ice he'd also probably notice as it happened, and wind would be easy cause there isn't any airflow, so the slightest brush of a breeze is a sign that something is wrong...'

'...Spatial Rend!'

So I just want to make clear: this spell is the ultimate a.s.sa.s.sin spell. There's no warning, no light or visible movement except maybe the slightest of shudders in mana and warping of s.p.a.ce. But unless you have a finely-tuned ability to detect mana fluctuations, or s.p.a.ce itself, you are SCREWED.

I watched as the Minotaur split in half with no resistance and fell over dead.

I sweat a little inside. 'Holy s.h.i.+t that's it? That's f.u.c.king terrifying! How in the d.a.m.n fox am I supposed to avoid that if someone uses such a spell on me? Sure I can feel it coming and forming, unlike this poor bull, but it's so fast!'

Luna and Fenrir caught up, seeing that body.

Luna gagged a bit and tried not to throw up, as Fenrir gave me a look like "isn't that overkill?"

Honestly, yeah. The amount of mana I have to use for one cut is ridiculous. s.p.a.ce isn't a simple thing. It takes 15 mana! That's 15 fireb.a.l.l.s worth!

But I have a lot more of it now, so I'll be fine(I think).

...right?

'But... I feel bad. Really bad. Because that Minotaur is probably just like my Dungeon Monsters too...'
