34 Chapter 34: Taking Care Of Loose Ends

I knew they'd come eventually. It's impossible for them not to! Or so I thought. Then someone reminded me that they would probably a.s.sume their men were taken by the Mind Flayers.

The issue is I kinda wanted to get more DP and practice in, and rescue the other refugees they've captured and are... doing things to.

Yeah I'm feeling angry whenever I think about it. But from what I understand, the war is really beginning now way off in those human kingdoms, and our headcount in this forest will soon hit the roof, so I'm gathering as many soldiers as I can.

Suddenly understand my bunny-wolf-bee plans a bit more? To be honest I'm trying to get ANY species I can.

I honestly could probably use my still-not-quite understood soul powers to enslave any who come here to instantly be a resident but... ugh. If I did that I'd be just like the Mind Flayers, and considering how much slavery annoys me after seeing Luna with her crying at night, and twitching from fast movements, and knowing how it felt from Fenrir... yeah no.

I ain't doing that.

Right now my Dungeon is beginning to take a bit more shape, a few trees evolved into st.u.r.dy Rock Maples, and I cut them down with the Flaming Weapon spell molded as an ax, and everyone's working to make a house.

Oh yeah, I think I figured out how a flame being physical works. Somehow(it is magic after all), heat energy from fire is converted into kinetic energy(force), which cause physical impacts as it is formed into a shape, so while LIKE a solid in how it delivers force, it's actually still pure energy. It's also wrapped in remnant heat while the core is the kinetic energy.

So converting flame to force is only Tier-2? But using two elements in basic ways at the same time is Tier-1? This world's idea of complex is VERY different from my own. Admittedly all I'm doing with that force is forming a stick or shape out of it.

Back to WHY I cut down a tree, the family might not understand exactly what it is, but they know the Glade takes up less s.p.a.ce than it should in the main world, and are calling it a "smaller realm", which I suppose is the word for such things.

I think the mom figured out I'm a Fox and this was likely a sacred area after seeing me pull spells outta thin air a few times. Instant-Magic rats me out, yet she hasn't said anything.

So it just ended up being tacitly agreed the building would be outside the Glade, but I vetoed that. I told them to put it in the Glade, as it would be safer, and I needed a home too.

That's when the son asked "why don't you live in that building mister? Isn't this your home?"

'...huh? Live in the Shrine?'

"...how have I never thought of that."

It's the home of the dungeon core, but it's also MY HOME. And I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT IT!

I've been sleeping on the ground for over 2 weeks now, because I'm an IDIOT!

"Ah... well it'll still be safer at least."

So they began building in the Glade, and laid the foundations right next to the rock wall, as far from the shrine as possible.

Geez they're kinda superst.i.tious huh. Though if this Shrine did have a G.o.d dwelling in it, that respect would make sense.

So we have a bit of some good foundations, apparently the mothers husband had been a carpenter who'd worked making a house before, so she knew a bit from his complaints about "architects reaching for the skies on ladders of straw" what would and wouldn't be safe for the lower layers. The current idea is a large open building, with no separate rooms for now, held up by large cross beams.

'No less crude than the rest of this place... plus it's basically a Log House.'

Alright, we got a few more wolves, and when a few got too close to the rabbits, about 6 of them jumped to the girls for protection, while the rest of the 24 rabbits that had gathered over two days(why the actual h.e.l.l are there so many rabbits?) ran away.

Surprisingly it was in the instinctual act of looking for protection from Touka that they joined the Dungeon willingly.

'They were too animalistic go consciously choose to join like Fenrir, but in instinctually looking for protection from a Dungeon member, they ask to join us. Huh.'

And now we have 6 rabbits, 5 wolves including Fenrir, a single mouse(I dunno how that happened but it did at some point), 3 Tengu, a Water Elemental, and me, the Foxkin Dungeon Boss. Looking... weird. This is a weird a.s.sortment.

Oh and we might have bees/owls soon. Luckily our mouse resident hides pretty well from the gathering birds. By 'hide' I mean of course that it never leaves the Glade, which birds cannot fly into unless they are a Dungeon resident.

Oh the amount of birds who've flown at the Glade upon seeing that mouse only to get tossed out the other end at the same elevation... that's pretty funny actually.

Alrighty, here's the serious business: it's time.

Morning has come, my preparations are made, Isen has got this fort down, and Fenrir has instructed his fledgling pack to follow the lead of the Tengu until his return.

My relations.h.i.+p with the wolves is interesting, as they all respect and follow Fenrir, and seeing how everyone calls me "Lord", they have a large amount of respect for me too.

The best a.n.a.logy I can think of is that they view their pack as a fire ruled by their lord Fenrir, while I'm the king above even Fenrir who manages the other Fief's they gotta get along with.

Except unlike the actual feudal system, everyone here actually feels allegiance to me and can feel how freaking huge my soul is through the soul connection. I might have little clue how to use it, but it apparently intimidates unsuspecting new recruits pretty well.

As a side effect, I have new t.i.tle now, which makes animals more likely to follow me.

Yeah... I'm not delving into that.

So here I am. Walking out, Luna on my left waving back to the family that kinda doesn't talk to me too much(I'm scary?), and Isen seeing us off.

The wolves are still searching, the bunnies are now actively recruiting any other bunnies who come to join the... pack? What the word for a group of bunnies? Anyways, bunnies will be easier to gain. And hey, as mice trickle in, they'll probably join too.

I turn, looking back at this hill. My home. Filled with weird a.s.sortments of creatures, that I know closely, and barely do at all, with a family of refugees I saved.

I smiled, wide and happy, and turned to regard the mountain off in the distance, and the Fox on it's top.
