Chapter 423 War

The chopper landed on the deck within the Chaos. Xiang Ning exited the aircraft first, making sure Helos and Hera were settled.

“Wow, Brother Liu, what’s up with that outfit?” Xiang Ning grinned when he saw a man in a yellow top, a cap, and large gloves walking over.

“Tsk, I’ve told you before that other than welding, I can fly spacecraft too! Are you going to believe me now?” Brother Liu smiled, flicking his cap.

When Xiang Ning was in the Chaos, he would explore the ship whenever he had free time. Due to his age, many people recognized him. This person he called Brother Liu was a welder and had a good relationship with him. At the time, Xiang Ning didn’t believe him, but now he knew that anyone who could get a berth aboard this ship wouldn’t be an ordinary person. They were all multi-talented.

“Haha, we’re all here for a reason. Alright, enough with the nonsense, I received instructions that the big guy needs to be watched by a specialist,” said Brother Liu, his smile gone.

Xiang Ning nodded. He had talked to Hera about it on the chopper; she’d hesitated for a moment, then agreed.

Seeing as Xiang Ning agreed, Brother Liu waved and a clean-looking girl walked over. She pressed Xiang Ning’s head and said, “Haha, it’s Little Brother Xiang Ning! We meet again.”

“Cough, cough!” reminded Brother Liu.

Xiang Ning laughed, “Sister Yang, take good care of Hera.”

The girl he called Sister Yang nodded and approached Hera. To be honest, she had a strange feeling when she saw the little girl. She was not, strictly speaking, a human. But when she saw the girl’s thin body, her maternal instinct kicked in and she crouched, giving a friendly smile. “Nice to meet you, Little Hera, you can call me Sister Yang.”

Although Hera didn’t understand her, since Xiang Ning had previously called her Sister Yang and she heard the words again, she guessed it was the human’s name. So she nodded shyly and said, “Sister… Yang.”

Her hoarse voice triggered Sister Yang’s protective instinct once more and she pulled Hera into her arms, gently comforting her. Helos’ eyes widened, almost rushing over to teach the bipeds a lesson. But Hera had lectured him on this before, so he merely observed them for a while without making a move.

Brother Liu and Xiang Ning’s mouths twitched.

A man in uniform and carrying weapons walked over. “Captain Lan Quan, please cooperate.”

“Mm.” Lan Quan nodded. He was in foreign territory now, and there was no escape. Cooperating with them was the right thing to do.

However, Lan Quan and Xiang Ning’s eyes met and they briefly communicated without words. A very interesting individual indeed.

Chu Long and the rest found all of it very new. This scientific invention was far beyond their imaginations and they were taking it all in with great curiosity. They were surprised to see that Xiang Ning appeared so familiar with the people here, too. However, they knew they must choose their words carefully in a place like this. That was why Chu Long, Long Xiaoqi, and even the usually calm Gu Kun forced themselves to stay silent despite the questions that were on the verge of bursting within their minds.

Xiang Ning saw that they had questions, but didn’t know where to start. He decided to go meet Dong Qianyi first. He could explain when they were back at Fortress One.

As Xiang Ning left, Long Xiaoqi couldn’t help but ask the friendly-looking Brother Liu, “Uh… Brother Liu, what does Xiang Ning do here?”

“Uh… he’s just a staff member here. Let him tell you when he’s done with his work. I’ll go make arrangements for you to get some rest.…” Brother Liu seemed to change the topic. If they had the right to know, Xiang Ning would naturally tell them. It wasn’t his place to tell them.

On the other side, Xiang Ning headed straight for the command center without anyone escorting him.

When he heard the door open, Dong Qianyi turned and grinned at him. “You’re not hurt, are you?”

“No, no.” Xiang Ning waved him off, patting his chest with a smile.

“Mm, watch. I’ll explain later.” Dong Qianyi turned to the large screen. Xiang Ning looked around. It was all the same as he remembered, though the person sitting in the captain’s seat was a stranger. He was very strong, and Xiang Ning could sense the Mental Power rippling and contorting from the captain’s mind.

He issued consecutive strings of commands as more than twenty ships appeared from the dimensional rift. Every ship aimed its cannons at the Chaos, but Xiang Ning wasn’t worried about these invaders. He was confident in the Chaos.

“Howitzer cannons one, three, five, seven, and nine. Fire three rounds. Main Cannon Five, recharge.”

“Howitzer cannons one, three, five, seven, nine, fire. Main Cannon Five charging, aye.”

The five cannons rained attacks down on the enemy ships, their energy shields lighting up with the landing of every high-explosive shell.

“Sir, Main Cannon Five, charging complete. Permission to fire.”

“Aim at the enemy tier six frigate. Fire after the next round of cannons!”

“Yes, Sir!”

“Energy Cannon. Fire!” A red button was pressed and the main cannon with a hundred-meter diameter mounted on the left side of the Chaos fired a blinding energy ball. It found its target as it incinerated every ship on its way there. The tier six frigate sharply turned at the very last moment to avoid it, but half of it still melted and it crashed to the ground.

The attack seemed to have angered the Shura Tribe because hundreds of unmanned drones suddenly swarmed toward the Chaos like angry hornets.

“Fire the regular cannons, dispatch three hundred drones. Kill all the enemies coming out of the dimensional rift!”

Xiang Ning felt his scalp go numb. Their drones weren’t being sent out to intercept the enemy’s drones, but rather directly to the enemy’s ships?! Were the auto-aiming cannons enough to stop all the incoming drones?

While Xiang Ning thought about it, thirty cables appeared and attached to the side of the head of the person seated in the captain’s seat. Then he watched as the hundreds of drones quickly got shot out of the sky. The accuracy rate was seventy percent, how terrifying was that?! An ordinary self-aiming system’s accuracy rate is usually twenty percent at maximum, and that was already impressive.

But now… Xiang Ning had newfound admiration for the man in the seat. If Xiang Ning could lock Keen Observation on all those objects, there was a possibility he could do the same, but that man relied purely on the strength of his Mental Power to complete the calculations, then fired all the cannons within a short time!

Ender's Game all over again. Mad fun though
