Chapter 295 A Spy

Xiang Ning knew that he could no longer stay in the sewer. He needed to inform Lei Zhongyuan about what he had seen as soon as possible and let the higher-ups handle it. Shit! To think that one of the leaders of the Seven Deadly Sins is here in Hang City! It’s a massive ticking time bomb!

Just as he touched the ladder, he heard footsteps behind him. While the person was weak, this was still the cult’s base. If his presence is leaked to the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, he would be dead. Of course, in the process of killing him, the presence of a martial artist above tier seven would be felt by everyone in the city.

That was why Xiang Ning dove into the sewage again. The footsteps grew nearer and Xiang Ning saw that it was two of the three cult members that had come down before.

“It’s too smelly. Why must we choose a place like this? Want to go out and have a smoke since you can’t handle the stench too?”

“Yeah, yeah. Don’t let anyone else hear us slacking off. Let’s go take a break, we still have work to do later.”

Xiang Ning emerged from the sewage just ten seconds after they went up. He activated Disguise and stood motionlessly as he prepared himself. He climbed up the ladder and silently pushed the grate away. There wasn’t even the slightest squeak when he got up.

In the alley, just fifteen meters away from him, he saw the two cult members having a cigarette as they talked. Xiang Ning took a deep breath and walked over to them. Since he was already outside, might as well end them.

He walked forward and the two cult members sensed something. They turned around and saw Xiang Ning, who was now disguised as a beggar. There were always beggars no matter the city, it's just that the beggar in front of them was younger and an intolerable stench emanated from him—it was as bad as the sewers!

Xiang Ning rolled his eyes as he forced a smile. “May I have a cigarette too? Just the butt of one would be fine too.” He stretched his hand out to take a cigarette, but it was slapped away. Xiang Ning’s hand had seeped in sewage so the cult member instinctively recoiled.

“Shit! You stupid beggar! Do you want to die? Scram!” He kicked out at Xiang Ning, who dodged it.

“Fuck! How dare you dodge?” The cult member was speechless as his attack was evaded by the beggar in front of him with his clumsy footwork. While it was true that he had been invited into the cult by coincidence, he was still in the cult. He was weak, and people didn’t respect him. His girlfriend had run away with some guy, he always got bullied, and his friends laughed behind his back, too.

His life was hell, but the Seven Deadly Sins made him stronger. They had a special serum that made him stronger. It had been months since he had joined and there were no side effects. He was relieved by that.

In reality, it was just a placebo and he was still weak. He wanted to kick Xiang Ning a few more times, but got disheartened when he missed his attack even though the beggar was so close to him.

Xiang Ning saw that the man was sad all of a sudden and felt like he had a bad life. Just when he raised his fist, he decided to throw him the cigarette instead.

While his attention was focused on Xiang Ning, Xiang Ning was keeping a close eye on the other cult member. He had seen something suspicious with the cult member’s movements.

The other cultist walked up to his partner and said, “It’s fine. Let’s just chase him away and go back.”

“Yeah.” The first cultist didn’t feel like staying any longer. He whipped out a short dagger from his waist and smiled at Xiang Ning. He thought that the beggar was stupid and hoped to see him terrified at the sight of a villain like him.

Xiang Ning yawned and walked past him. The cult member automatically moved away because Xiang Ning’s stench was too overwhelming, as if he had just swum in sewage. Who would touch him?

When the two cultists left, Xiang Ning walked out of the darkness. While he was attracting the attention of the first cult member, his partner was making some suspicious movements. Luckily, Xiang Ning had caught sight of it.

He was hesitant. The next step he would be taking was more or less signing his own death warrant, but what’s life without some challenges? This is the Seven Deadly Sins! He needed some concrete proof, so it would be best if he got it while he was already there.

He slowly walked back and stood where the two cult members were standing and weaseled out a small, rock-like item from the cracks in the wall. Someone else might have missed it, but Xiang Ning had actually made something similar on the Chaos, though the one he’d made with the researchers was much more advanced. The thing he was holding was at least two generations older.

Xiang Ning had been forced to study many other types of inventions in different sectors since Dong Qianyi had decided to raise him as a Smith Saint. One of them was production. Even if he knew the theory, it would be useless if he couldn’t produce it. That was why the class on production was important.

Coincidentally, this type of invention was something Xiang Ning had been practicing on. While it was high-tech in the eyes of others, it was like a toy for him. He used some force and cracked open the exterior. A single memory chip sat inside the disguised exterior with the logo of the Federation.

He realized that there was a spy the moment he saw the logo.

The presence of the Seven Deadly Sins in bigger cities wasn’t bizarre, since there were always blindspots in security. But to have such a large whale in a small lake like this was too suspicious. Thus, Xiang Ning needed to know what was in the chip. It directly affected their safety.

He transferred the data within the chip into his watch; he was on a timer now. After finishing the transfer, he reactivated the device’s disguise and placed it back into the crack.

Before he went back to the hostel, he dropped by a public bath and dove straight into the shower to wash the filth off. He ignored the strange looks from the workers.

He saw a line of ladies walking into a room as he came out with a clean shirt. Xiang Ning was curious. Why’re there so many people entering such a small room? Did something happen?

Just then one of the workers walked past so Xiang Ning inquired about it. The worker was looking at him suspiciously, so he had to deny that he had done anything wrong. The worker took out a price list after confirming that he wasn’t up to no good.

Xiang Ning sighed the moment he saw it. “To think that the morals of society are so degraded!”

The worker called him crazy after he left, but he didn’t say anything in return.

Ah-ha! So there was a spy!
