Chapter 22: The Butterfly Hairpin

"Feifei! Can you come over here for a bit?" Pang Diayu, one of the female crew, grabbed onto Xiong Jingfei's hand and was about to drag her away. Except Yang Zheyan was still holding onto the other one.

Yang Zheyan instantly released her hand. Turning around, he walked the other direction to avoid her questioning facial expression. Once he saw that Xiong Jingfei was no longer there, he leaned against a tree and sighed out in relief, "Saved, for now..."

While walking alongside with Pang Diayu, Xiong Jingfei did turn around to see Yang Zheyan still walking away from her. It was clear he was not going to talk about how he knows she is engaged, but it doesn't mean she'll just let it go.

It's just that, seeing him walk away from her was a scene she thought she saw before. It was a gut-wrenching feeling inside her stomach. She wanted to run to him and grab him. Yell at him to not leave her behind and to hold her hand again. Even so, she couldn't and wouldn't do it. Because at the same time, a part of her just wanted to punch him in the face.

She found her thoughts to be bizarre and mixed when it came to him. Shaking her head, she tried getting rid of these thoughts. She barely knew who this man was and only met him for the first time at Guiying Hui Museum.

"Feifei, are you listening?" Pang Diayu asked, waving her hand in front of Xiong Jingfei's face, who wasn't blinking. She was explaining the schedule tomorrow, but it appears Xiong Jingfei did not listen to a single word. "You didn't hear me?"

Xiong Jingfei quickly apologizes for not listening. Then she tried acting a little cute for Pang Diayu to forgive her this one time for not listening. This time around, she will!

"Okay, so tomorrow..."

Pang Diayu barely said four words, and Xiong Jingfei was already distracted again. She turned her head towards the bell-like sound ringing through her ear. At first, the sound slowly approached her but got louder each pa.s.sing second.

"Are you not listening again?" Pang Daiyu frowned, crossing her arm and waited for Xiong Jingfei to apologize again.

Xiong Jingfei did not apologize nor did she turn her attention back to Pang Daiyu. She was staring at one area then ran off in that direction.

"Hey! Where are you going? It's already dark!" Pang Daiyu shouted and tried chasing after her, but she was too fast for her. "Don't run! It's dangerous to run at night!"

Xiong Jingfei did not stop running. Instead, she ran faster because she saw something she has been yearning for.

Xiong Jingfei swear she did not see it wrong. Just now, she saw a lady holding onto the b.u.t.terfly hairpin appearing in her dream every night. She stopped at the spot the lady, who was wearing a traditional white dress had dropped the hairpin. Picking up the hairpin, her eyes open wide with shock and happiness.

She was right!

Tears well up in her eyes, she looked up to find the lady who had dropped the hairpin. She wanted to know where this lady got the hairpin from? Or was it part of the jewelry props the actresses are using? She searched for this hairpin for the longest time, but no one was selling or have anything remotely close to it. She did not expect to find it here!

She looks to the left and right in hoping to spot the lady again. Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be found. Then at the corner of her eyes, she saw a glimpse of the lady's white dress disappearing around another building corner. Taking the hairpin with her, she ran towards that other building which was a bit further away from the crews. When Xiong Jingfei turned the corner, there was no sight of the lady in the white dress.

Instead, she came upon a traditional back courtyard fenced around with gray slabs. There were flowers planted around the area and only a ginkgo tree in the corner, swaying with the wind. Even though it was very dark, somehow in Xiong Jingfei's head she could see how beautiful the flowers will look in the daytime.

"Xiong Jingfei, are you there?" A voice whispered on the other side of the gray wall. The person cleared his throat and called out again, " Xiong Jingfei?"

Xiong Jingfei doesn't know who was it that was calling out to her on the other side. The building where she saw the lady should be empty. No one uses it anymore causing it to become an abandoned building. Although she doesn't know how an abandoned building became a beautiful back courtyard.

Well, these were the least of her thoughts at the moment.

"Feifei?" The voice whispered again, but a little louder this time.

It sounded like it was a young boy in his teens. She doesn't know anyone who is that young, and to become "good" enough friend for him to call her by her nickname.

Xiong Jingfei looked around for something she can step on to take a look over the wall. Maybe, one of the crew members got injured and needed her help. The moment she saw a big stone near the wall to step on, a voice came above her.

"Hey, why didn't you answer me when you were here?"

Xiong Jingfei screamed in surprise to see a person sitting on top of the wall all a sudden. Though no sound came out. Her foot slipped on the stone, and she landed right on her bottom.

Looking up, it was a male teenager who was wearing a traditional silk blue robe. Along with a blue-ribbon holding part of his long hair back and a silver hairpin sticking it in place. He appeared to be no older than fifteen years old. Even after accidently scaring her, he sat on top of the wall and gave her a silly grin.

She definitely did not know this person!

He hopped down and held out a fruit candy stick. When she didn't take it immediately, he frowned. Previously, she was thrilled to just see the market and ate candy fruit off the street for the first time. Now that he brought her more, she didn't show any happiness on her face.

"Feifei, are you alright? Did you already forget the benefactor that took you out to have fun?" He put the candy stick in her hand and pulled her to stand up. Then having a similar gentle smile like someone, he said: "It's me, Wei Weimin."
