24 Chapter 17

After going deeper in the mine, they really found nothing until they came to this place. The s.p.a.ce is wide enough to fit a group of elephants running around.

Some of the torches in this place have fallen off, and then they saw a mining cart there. The railway is going very far, there are three of them aligning with each other. Tokaya concluded that they might lead to the surface outside judging by how wide the s.p.a.ce in this room is, not to mention there is some other sign that it might indeed be leading to the outside.

She then mumbled to herself, "They must have used this place as a deposit for the ores, and then they send it to the outside by using these carts. Hmm…"

The group scattered around with each holding their own torches, the pathways here are many so it's hard to decide which one to go first. There are two tunnels on the right, and another three on the left. Not to mention, there is a second floor. It might be possible to go there but they have to find which pathway is the right one, that leads up to there.

It is dark from here so it is hard to see very far.

"Guuu~uys, I found something!" yelled Chika.

They went to check it out.

It is an old torn backpack. But that was not what Chika wanted them to see. She went and gave a notebook inside to Tokaya, "Hm, this is…"

Another journal that was left by the same person that wrote about the devil's tongue. Tokaya quickly flips up the pages and read it, this time… it's quite short. Speaking as she read it.

"I know about the creature now, it is not a devil, but something even more monstrous than that! It doesn't hunt humans, they just wait for them to come. They didn't kill them, they tortured them until they die, and absorbed them into their vile goo-ish body. That thing... is a giant humongous creature that lives in the deepest part of the forest!"

"… I have heard stories about them when I was in Lorkhan, they are said to be a creature born from a monster's corpse. I don't remember anything else about it, I don't know anything anymore… if you find this, go take the second pathway on the right from where you came from. That will lead you further down the mine where you can find all the stash I stored. You can take whatever you want, but please leave the necklace. Please, find them and take the necklace to my family. I beg you."

"… is what it said."

"… goodness" that leaves Anko scratching her head.

None of them really knows much of the context except Tokaya, and she doesn't want to tell them about it. Pondering in her own thought, 'Maybe he ran away from something when he wrote this, the writing is so messy. Now that I think about it, how can I understand this language? I don't have a perk that allows me to translate it either, and it looks like the others couldn't read it.'

'Haa… this is messed up. A monster, and judging by how he writes it, that means there is more than one monster like that too. Should I tell them? They might be worried, but if I don't tell them…' Tokaya shook her head and steeled herself to tell the group the whole truth.

She told them about everything that she knows, about the skeleton Tenko found, about the monsters, and all others.

Anko vomited after hearing all of that.

Chika then said, "That's… erm, that's really something, all right. Oh my G.o.d…" patting her head, "The monster alone is enough to put a bad taste in my mouth, but the fact that we are inside the said mine. Filled with G.o.d-knows-what, completely abandoned, and maybe, quite possibly, dangerous for us to walk in just to level up our stats..."

"…" Tenko's lips hardened, "We should go back and leave."

"What, no way" Chika responded. This led Tokaya to question, "Why are you against us leaving if you don't like it here."

"Well, I mean… we can still handle it, right?"

"…"

They all went quiet.

Chika sighed, and then handed something to Tokaya… it's a book.

"Mm, this is?"

A grin appeared on Chika's face, "Just open and see."

"You act as if you can read it."

"Nuh?! I can okay?"

"Really? Then why didn't you read the diary yourself?"

Chika scratches her cheek, "Well, it's not like I don't know how to read it, but more like… I can't read it."

"Huh?"

Chika then explained it to her, she didn't see the diary's content but if she reads the book just now, she can. This led to the conclusion of there is a force that forbids other members of the group to not be able to see it unless it's the leader.

So, only Tokaya is able to read a book such as those and not the others. At least, that was what they come up with.

Tokay flip up the book, and her eyes quickly widened.

"This is… a Spellbook?!"

"Yep, and guessed what… I've learned the content in it."

"Huh?"

"See, when someone learns a spell from the book, the thing doesn't disappear, so all of us can learn it! Isn't that awesome?!"

Tokaya didn't respond, but she's enthusiastically gone back and read it again. Leaving her alone to her business, Chika then went to calm Anko down while Tenko is waiting for them all.

Tokaya does not have an Archer cla.s.s, but her archery skill from her previous world allows her to use bow proficiently and gained the perks for them.

The book teaches about the element of flames. Spiraling fire from within exploded in colorful fas.h.i.+on of a dancing force to the magical energy.

Tier 1 [Firebolt] Releases bolt of fire directly from your palmCost: 30 MP / Requirement: 15 INT

The look of disappointment shown on her face as she saw the requirement. The fact that it has something like this, even though all of them can learn in, n.o.body can use it except the one that has 15 INT and which currently, only Tokaya has that number.

She went to slap Chika's head and yelled at her not to raise people's expectations so mindlessly.
