52 Summi

"Amnii-chan needs to work now, do you want to go play with Sleipnir?"

The moment she heard Sleipnir, her eyes sparkled while she immediately nodded.

"Hmm!"

Rubbing her hair, he got a maid to transport Eurus to Sleipnir while Amadeus returned to his quarters.

"Call for Eras and Lionel."

Directing another maid, he took the letter out again and handed it to Irene who was following her. Upon reading it, she also raised her eyebrows as she looked back at Amadeus,

"What do you plan on doing, your highness?"

Amadeus didn't reply as he then signalled for the letter to be handed to Eriko who also looked through it. She politely handed it back to Amadeus but didn't say anything. Amadeus didn't say anything as well as he returned to his study with Eras and Lionel entering a short while later. The two also ended up reading the letter and all said the same question that Irene had asked.

The room fell into silence with the letter resting on top of the desk.

"We will go then. Eriko, prepare the necessities, we will be going to the Merchant city of Mercator, for the summit between the Empire and Kingdoms."

"Yes."

Eriko bowed and left while Amadeus turned to Lionel,

"I will be leaving the safety of the Palace in your hands Lionel."

"Yes, I won't disappoint, your majesty."

Amadeus nodded while he watched the latter leave.  He then turned to Eras and Irene while a smile appeared on their faces,

"It seems you both are thinking the same thing."

The two looked at each other as Irene spoke up,

"It won't look well that the Empire didn't initiate the summit for such an important matter."

Amadeus' smile turned cold as his eyes narrowed,

"Indeed, it seems that the church is thinking of taking the initiative this time. Those fanatics will most likely act like they will take up the responsibility for the front lines while waiting for our nations to weaken in the public's eyes."

"But…"

Irene seemed to refute before Amadeus cut her off.

"It seems to be a selfish and stupid plan, but it will increase the amount of people believing in them. At the start it will be just one or two then more will join in before they have what they want."

The two looked on while Amadeus spoke while reaching out his hand,

"In desperate times, the populace are ready to grasp at anything that lends them their hands, even if it's the enemy. Now for them, the Church will have a higher standing in their hearts despite not knowing of the oncoming war. It would be something along the lines of 'the church was the first to step up and bring the nations together into a summit…' etc. etc."

While Amadeus was speaking, his shadow fluctuated, and Velia appeared next to him giving him a report. She then disappeared as fast as she came in leaving the three alone. Opening the scroll, Amadeus' smile only widened as he read the report before throwing it to Irene.

The latter caught it and gave it a glance before crus.h.i.+ng the report on her hands. Eras looked at the hand rather reluctantly as he also wanted to read it.

"It seems that the rumours have already started."

Eras seemed to get the gist of it before he asked Amadeus,

"Will your highness address the ma.s.ses?"

"Why should I?"

Realisation flashed through Eras' eyes as he also smiled and shook his head. Irene seemed to calm down, but she just looked at the two smiling guys with confusion. Amadeus let out a laugh as he got up and stood on the table. Walking towards Irene, he then pat her helmet like a child as she immediately replied back,

"Eh, Ehhh?! What's with the look of pity, your highness?"

It was quite a sight seeing a thirteen-year-old standing on a table patting the head of a female samurai like an elder patting the head of a child.

"Anyway, the summit is in a month so make your preparations."

Amadeus jumped back down before returning to his seat. Eras left with a smile while Irene stood next to him with a blush. Well he couldn't see it, but she probably was blus.h.i.+ng out of embarra.s.sment. Putting all these thoughts to the back of his head, he then looked at the other report in his hand. It was the recent reports of Arius' strength alongside Rex'. Not turning to look at Irene, Amadeus' voice was heard,

"Will there be any chance to spare a Blade?"

Irene looked surprised but shook her head.

"No."

All Amadeus got was a firm rejection, but Irene continued,

"Unless, it's for some kind of punishment…"

Irene didn't continue but a playful smirk appeared on Amadeus' face. The next day, within the Blade's camp, Eras had just finished his s.h.i.+ft and came to the cafeteria for lunch. The place was packed, and it was hard to find a seat, but Eras was able to find one rather easily. Grabbing his fork, he took a bite and immediately a refres.h.i.+ng feeling pa.s.sed through his throat and all his fatigue was swept away. Suddenly, he felt something wrong as his closed eyes opened and found the place deserted. Well it wasn't that it was deserted, it seemed that the location of his place had changed.

Slowly a.n.a.lysing the surroundings, the place seemed familiar as a feeling of impending doom filled his body. Before he could even finish thinking, a large set of doors opened and in walked Amadeus with Irene flanking him. The two seemed to look at him as a large smile immediately appeared on Amadeus face while Irene's eyes could be seen squinting, so it was easy to tell that she was also smiling. Still surprised by what was happening, the smiles disappeared as Amadeus shouted,

"Eras, what do you think you're doing?!"

"Huh? No, your highne..."

"Shut up!"

Irene cut him off as she desperately tried to fend off the laugh that was creeping up.

"The audacity to eat his highness' food with such pleasure!"

"Huh? Bu…"

Irene didn't give him time to think as she immediately appeared next to him and locked his hands behind him. His plate fell with him as he pushed onto the floor and his hands ties.

"Aaaahh! W-w-wait…"

"Shut up!"

Amadeus watched on with his mouth twitching seeing how heavy-handed Irene was on Eras. She wasn't the strongest Blade for no reason. Eras was still confused by what was happening before the puzzles started to fall into place. Amadeus walked next to him also trying to hold in his laughter as he bent down and let loose a slap.

*Pah*

"I couldn't believe you would do this, Eras. You are hereby temporary relieved from your duties."

Amadeus slowly came to his side and whispered,

"Sorry."

Eras mouth was bound but his eyes transmitted his thoughts correctly,

'Sorry, what sorry, you clearly set all this up. Look at the relieved smile, did you really want to slap me that bad?'

Eras was taken away confused, but he could swear he heard laughter as soon as he left the room. He could also see the shoulders of the blades taking him away trembling slightly. It seems that there were quite a few people taking part in this without his knowledge. That could only explain how he was duped so easily. Before he knew it, he was now overlooking Arius and his protection detail while being disguised.

'What the h.e.l.l have I gotten into?'

Was the only thought left in his mind when he saw Amadeus and Irene pointing at him and laughing while hiding. A letter from Amadeus calmed him down for a while but he did miss staying next to the Emperor. He also knew that staying by the Emperor's side would mean that it would be getting more and more exciting from hereon.

A month and a half quickly went by and Amadeus was in his study with Irene and Eriko in front.

"So, although there have been more people trying to spread the rumours, people taking heed to it are lower than their expectations. However, there is still some unrest within the populace but they're all looking towards the palace with uncertainties"

"Then shall we wash those so-called uncertainties away?"

Amadeus looked back with a smile and continued,

"The preparations are done; we'll leave tomorrow noon."

- The next day -

The citizens woke up with the entrance of the sun to go about their day. Still within the taverns and among the people, hushed voices were slowly spread around.

"The summit is in a week or two…"

"…it was quite brave for the church…"

"d.a.m.n, traitors talking about a c.r.a.ppy country with respect…"

"…our country's the best…"

While people never talked about it openly, they did do in secret. Every once in a while, they would glance at the majestic palace walls hoping for something. Some wanted to see the reaction of the Emperor while some were just interested in how the uncertainties of the ma.s.ses will be interested. Some patriotic ones felt unsatisfied with how the church's name kept coming it out with a trace of respect. There nation didn't lose out.

Within a house, two close couples had just got together, and one was speaking with astonishment,

"You actually converted?"

"Yeah, done it yesterday."

"Why…"

"Well…."

The black-haired couple looked at the brown-haired man with astonishment as they saw him talk with so much reverence. They then looked at the blonde lady sitting next to him who also just shook her head. With that they were able to see that there was no hope for the guy. They silently listened to the man as he was still their good friend. This went on until noon, but this wasn't the only one in the capital. In various other places, there were similar conversations being carried out.

However, among these very voices, a tiny grumble followed by a loud roar, loud enough to shake the ground, resounded throughout the capital. No matter what the citizens were doing, they all looked in the direction of the palace and saw tens of large figures ascend. For the ones that were closer it was a spectacle they would never forget in the making as they saw a group of dragons ascend in strict formation with a luxuriously decorated carriage in the middle being pulled by a very unique horse.

A hazy silhouette of a golden dragon appeared surrounding the group as it let out a roar causing a faint tremor to pa.s.s through the people's very souls. Its odd coloured eyes descended onto the capital before looking in front as it shot into the distance.

The citizens were just left with wide opened eyes at the direction the dragon shot off into. The group of four consisting of the black-haired couple, the brown-haired man and the blonde lady also came out as they saw the spectacle. Also looking in the same direction, a small voice left the man,

"I'm thinking of reverting."
