156 War Of Attrition

The instructors and officers in the conference room could not help exclaiming when they saw the situation.

"He has already pre-planned how to deal with all of this!" Terry looked at the backup team, his eyes filled with admiration. Soon after, many of the other officers chimed in...

"When Steve proposed the use of armor and robots by the recruits, he had already thought of forming the backup team!"

"Now the veterans are losing! They shouldn't have agreed to let the recruits use the armor and robots!"

"Once the veterans manage to form a team to cooperate, the situation will change again."

All of the officers had been on the battlefield, so they knew that once several veterans formed a small team, they could cooperate more tacitly than the recruits. This was because the veterans knew how to make use of their advantage and combat powers much more efficiently than the recruits.

As such, a team of three veterans would have no problem at all in fighting against fifty or sixty recruits. Then, once 10 veterans formed a team, their combat power would be frightening enough to crush one hundred or two hundred recruits!

In a military base camp, a team made up of 10 people would be able to stretch its potential to the fullest. This was precisely why Steve had tried to divide the teams of veterans.

Although the veterans were temporarily trapped individually, there was no guarantee that they would be similarly trapped in each of the 500 small battles. Once the veterans managed to form a team, the s...o...b..ll effect would be astonis.h.i.+ng!

Although the new recruits, including Sophia and the 10-person backup team, could also cause a s...o...b..ll effect, the formation of a veteran team would cause more than a s...o...b..ll effect. It would be an avalanche!

"This batch of recruits has performed much better than the past recruits in a group battle," Wendy said.

Nickerson nodded and said, "Yes. These recruits still have a hope to win. However, there is still a second battle to consider, which is the battle between Steve and five veterans. The party who wins that battle will play a decisive role in the first battle."

Steve alone would fight five veterans, all of whom had a basic cell value of 350. In this battle, the veterans team would send only 10 people with a basic cell value of 350 points, and Steve alone would take down all five of them.

But, if Steve lost, these five people would form a very powerful team. If they joined the battle, they would directly cause an avalanche effect. The teamwork of veterans would then grow stronger, which would lead to the direct failure of Steve's plan.

But, if Steve won, he could defeat five veterans by himself. And, if he joined the battle, he would have a crus.h.i.+ng advantage over the veteran team. The s...o...b..ll effect of the recruits would then get bigger and stronger, until they finally won!

Of course, the first battle was equally important. If the outcome of the first battle was decided ahead of Steve's second battle, and if dozens of veterans were to besiege Steve, or thousands of recruits were to besiege five veterans, the outcome would be very clear...

"Look, there are already three veterans working together in Area 36 to the east, where there is a state of utter chaos." Lieutenant f.a.n.n.y pointed in one direction.

When everyone looked over, they saw that the 10-person backup team was too late to offer backup, leading the three veterans cooperating with each other to form a team.

Sure enough, after the three veterans formed a team, they fought 30 recruits, easily beating them. With that as a starting point, this pattern of breakdown soon spread across other battles. By this time, Sofia's 10-person backup team had discovered that things were going very wrong.

"Aaron, Simon, Jeffrey… You three go and offer your support to Area 36 to the east!" Sofia screamed. Aaron was ranked below Andrew in combat effectiveness and was one of the top recruits.

"But, when we go over and offer our support, the area I am responsible for would not be safe!" Aaron looked anxious.

"I'll be responsible for your area!" Sofia shouted, then quickly took out a capsule.

Boom!

A black female robot instantly rushed over. It was a black widow-shaped robot with twelve arms that was sprawled on the ground. The red lines on it added a little glamor to its aura.

With the addition of the Black Widow Robot, Aaron's area of responsibility was temporarily replaced. After which, the veterans were easily beaten up by the robot.

Aaron was shocked that Sofia and Lucy both had armor and robots, which were extremely expensive. However, he had no time to think about it, as he immediately rushed to the eastern battlefield with the other two men.

Meanwhile, new recruits were being defeated and veterans were breaking out of the siege in other places. At the same time, many small teams, which were made up of two or three veterans, started to emerge.

Sofia was anxious to see such situations occurring. As a temporary commander, she was unable to cope with everything.

"Sister, get Steve's auxiliary equipment out and keep it going for a while," Sofia yelled at Lucy. Steve's capsule contained a lot of auxiliary equipment, such as vines that could grab people, thunderclouds that could paralyze people, and ice-blowing machines.

The two women hurriedly took out the strange-looking equipment that would never have been used in a normal battle. However, these strange-looking pieces of equipment had displayed magical effects.

So, with the help of this equipment, the recruits managed to trap dozens of veterans within a short time. The equipment even allowed them to seize the opportunity to defeat the veterans!

The battle between the two sides slowly entered an equally balanced state in terms of power. The battle situation was very chaotic, as the veterans' s...o...b..ll effect speed was suppressed by the recruits.

Although several recruits could join a battle every time a veteran was defeated, the speed of these recruits being defeated was also very fast. This meant that the recruits were unable to make full use of their advantage in numbers.

As a result, this battle had become a war of numbers, meaning that whoever lost quickly and had more team members left in the end would win! Even the instructors and the officers did not antic.i.p.ate that the battle would come to this.

"In the end, it turned into a war of numbers. I can't even predict which side will win!" Commander-in-chief Nickerson let out a sigh of surprise.

"If the outcome of the second battle gets determined ahead of time, it will affect the outcome of the first battle," General Wendy said, as all eyes turned to focus on Steve and the five veterans in the second battle.
