10 Abby - 10

Suddenly, eight deep gashes appeared on his back, starting at his shoulders and moving down to the small of his back. I couldn't see what was causing it or how it was happening. Instinctively, I threw my hands up and heard a whisper coming from my own mouth. I had never heard the words that were now spilling from my own mouth, nor could I stop them.

Vires caeca. Vires ignotum.

Desine iam haec oppugnatio.

Ad indeprehensus mortalibus,

effundendum pallii tui.

Ego jubeo vos ut lux, ut incipe denuo.

I listened to the verses that were forming what seemed like a chant but didn't recognize any of them. Suddenly, the room flashed red as I continued my chant and then I saw it.

Straddled on top of the man, was a beast. It was vibrant red with what looked like black tribal of some sort tattooed on its face and arms. Where its ears should have been, were two huge ram like horns. And for hands, it had huge claws that extended from its fingers.

I tried to step forward, to stop this event from unfolding before my eyes, but when I tried to move I froze. It was like every muscle in my body went on a rebellious strike against my brain. Then, as I was screaming at myself mentally to move, it looked at me as it began another gouge at the man's shoulders. I gasped at the sight of this thing's eyes. They were amber yellow and shallow. I could almost see the fires of h.e.l.l burning in its pupils. A small grin curled across its face and I thought I saw it wink at me. It turned back to the man's now b.l.o.o.d.y back, finis.h.i.+ng the second set of gouges. Suddenly the beast caught the top of the man's pants, its claw pulled the elastic band back to reveal a symbol on the lower right side of the man's back.

I unexpectedly felt a surge of energy inside of me at the sight of it. I stepped forward and the beast looked at me, it snarled, curling its lips back to expose its long, razor-sharp teeth. I could see the claws beginning to smoke as if they were set ablaze and I looked back into those hideous eyes. And from somewhere deep inside me, I a.s.sertively whispered, "Relinquo!"

Almost as if in response, it leaped off of the man and vanished into the darkness. The room returned to dark and shadowy lighting. I stepped forward, looking at the man's now torn back and reached out to touch it. Suddenly he jumped as he gasped for air. I stepped back in alarm and grasped the desk. As he settled back into a deep slumber, I turned to look and see what all was on the desk. There was a picture frame made of silver that I could almost see reflections in. A dark book sat there and a small snow globe beside it. I reached out and picked up the snow globe. A smile came across my face as I looked at it closer. A dark silver dragon wrapped around the ball, its red eyes s.h.i.+mmered in the dark. Inside the globe, were two little fairies playing on a pink lily.

I was lost in the moment of the fairies, thinking about Ivy when the man s.h.i.+fted abruptly and hit his hand on his nightstand. I jumped at the sound and turned to look at him. In my shock, the snow globe fell to the floor, making a thud sound. I knelt down to examine the damage when he calmed and noticed that from the crack that now extended down the middle of the globe, water was leaking out onto the light-colored carpet. I looked closer and realized that it wasn't water that was leaking out but instead dark, red blood. It left a dark circle on the floor and the fairies had disappeared into the red liquid.

I shot up in terror and began to lose my balance from springing up so fast. I reached over and grabbed the desk to catch myself and I began to realize that my hand was getting warm, almost hot. I looked over as it launched into a full burn in my hand. I yanked my hand away, turned and bent over to investigate the book that I had rested my hand on. It was a black, bound book that looked almost like burnt flesh. As my face got close, the cover flipped open and pages began to turn. It stopped at a page in the middle and I looked closer to realize that everything was in a different language, Latin, maybe. As I continued to look at the words, the letters began to snake around and spell out the name, 'Adamar.'

I pulled back in confusion and stood up again. Suddenly something grabbed my shoulders and spun me around. A scream let out between my lips as I was looking directly into the beast's hideous yellow eyes.
