8 Preparation

The area they had chosen was located at a remote mountain area, far from any people. After all, accidents could normally happen at anytime during experiments, which could potentially endanger the lives of the people.

The facility was kept largely a secret. Thus, his wife and the architects decided to cover it up with a simple una.s.suming wooden cottage. The whole facility was also equipped with anti Electro Magnetic Pulse mechanisms.

Haeckel parked the stolen van, switched off the engine and unloaded the still unconscious Chouji. The zombies that were chasing them had already been left behind by the superior speed of the van.

Haeckel entered the wooden cottage with Chouji in tow with Merda on top of the patient's chest. He tilted a frame that was hanging on a wall until it was perpendicular to the floor. Behind the frame was a security key code where he typed the numbers 1-0-1-4.

A door appeared to the right of the painting with another security pa.s.s that this time, required fingerprints. The door opened and revealed an elevator. Haeckel pushed his patient inside before entering the elevator and pressing the 2nd floor b.u.t.ton. Before the elevator could move, his eye print was still needed. The only other person who had access to this place was his wife.

The 1st floor was the place where the cottage was. The 2nd floor was was made for leisure, refreshments, bedrooms and infirmary. This was the place where he and his wife relaxed after strenuous experiments. This was also the place where they, most of the time, did their adult stuff.

Haeckel brought Chouji to the infirmary, placed him in a machine and went downstairs. The cat walked along with him in silence.

The 3rd floor was the research lab. Compared to the 2nd floor, this place was twice as big. The laboratory was divided into rooms, with each one of them having different experiment subjects. All of the rooms except for two were used as locations for experimenting with weapons. The other room was his wife's while the other room was for his research on s.p.a.ce time.

There was a holographic logbook that floated in mid-air upon his entrance. This logbook recorded important data. As he scrolled past Experiment 1906, his face changed.

"Enter Log 1906."

A holographic video appeared, featuring a white room. In the middle of this room was a gla.s.s box. Inside the gla.s.s box was an object which was in a state of constant change. It would form into a sphere and slowly turn into ashes. The ashes would once again turn into a sphere and the cycle would repeat.

(Time.)

If entropy is the gradual decline into disorder, negentropy would be like a gradual incline into order. However, in theory, negentropy is just a temporary state. Everything would eventually fall into disorder and there would be nothingness.

Haeckel did not believe that everything would eventually end with nothingness. This was the reason why he had come up with the experiment that he was now observing in fast forward. The formation of the ashes into a sphere would take a long time as well as the melting of the sphere into ashes.

(What if I made this into a bomb?)

He thought about the potential uses of his new discovery. As an avid creator of weapons, this was the first thought that crossed his mind. Would it be more devastating than the atomic bomb if he turned it into a weapon? Haeckel and Merda entered the room.

"What is that thing, meow!" Merda jumped back. Fear was apparent in its voice.

"This?" Haeckel pointed at the gla.s.s box. "What's up with this thing?"

"So it was that thing, meow." Merda's voice calmed down. "Was that the thing you had used against me?"

"Used against you?"

"So, you really have not regained any memories. Unlike me, I have retained two feelings. Allow me to tell you all that I remember." Merda said while circling around the black box.

"I remember absorbing shards like the one we saw a while ago. Each time I absorbed them, I felt much stronger and desired for even more shards. This is the first feeling. When you have absorbed the red shard yesterday, a portion of it had been also absorbed by me."

"Do not worry. There is a weird law that binds us together. There is no way for me to harm you because it would incur a backlash on me."

"The second memory was of extreme fear and a feeling of looming death. I feel the same vibe coming from that thing." Merda glanced at the gla.s.s box and looked at Haeckel.

Haeckel did not reply to the talking cat. Instead, he walked out of the room and entered another room. This room contained the world's most advanced Virtual Reality Pod. A technology that would only enter the market 20 years from that time if the world did not end.

"Oh, I forgot. I don't want any distractions." Haeckel turned around and walked back to the hallway, he escorted the cat back to the 2nd floor before coming back down with lots of food. He also left a note for Chouji if ever he woke up.

(Time to work.)

Haeckel stretched his body and entered the Virtual Reality Pod. One could imagine the pod to be like a modern day smithy. He designed blueprints and constructed weapons first in this place. This would lower the cost and lessen the danger of his experiments.

Three days later, Haeckel emerged from the 3rd floor. Chouji was already awake and was busying himself with the various amenities. In particular, he was using the equipment in the weights room.

"This training thing is so hard!" Chouji dropped the barbell and went towards Haeckel. "Oh and by the way, I feel like a staff would be my weapon of choice. I know I'm not a good shot and I'm not a fan of blades either."

"Alright. Continue with your training. I'll come back later." Haeckel went to the refrigerator, grabbed lots of food and went back down.

After another three more days of continuous and arduous work, Haeckel finally came back up and called Chouji and Merda.

"Come with me."

Haeckel took Chouji and the cat down to the laboratory. He led the two to a room which was labeled 'Experiment 8892.' The room contained a large single rash guard, a pair of sneakers, a pair of bra.s.s knuckles and a wooden staff.

"Try those on." Haeckel nudged.

"What are these?" Chouji asked.

"You could say that the rash guard is like a Kevlar except that is not Kevlar. Although it is not shockproof, it is impenetrable by most bullets and would protect you from zombie bites. The sneakers is just like the rash guard. There's no other gimmick except for its durability.

"There's a sand bag over there. Try using those bra.s.s knuckles."

The bra.s.s knuckles were not bulky compared to the traditional knuckles. In fact, it could even be mistaken for gloves. Chouji wore the bra.s.s knuckles, went over to the sandbag and with a harrumph, he punched it with all his might.

Bam.

The sandbag was detached from the metal chain from where it was hanging from and was thrown away like a rag doll. The portion where he punched was pierced through and smoke billowed out from the hole.

It should be noted that Chouji did not waste his six days. Although he still looked the same and was still fat due to his bad eating habits and that he only exercised for six days, he somehow got stronger.

He realized the importance of working out especially in this apocalyptic world. His jaw dropped in astonishment whispered just one word - 'amazing.'

"Try that one too." Haeckel took the wooden staff and threw it at Chouji. "You can just use the sand bag you just destroyed. Oh, and please be careful with that one."

Chouji caught the staff and felt it with his hands. It looked like a wooden stick but in fact, it was cold and had a metallic feeling into it. The wooden staff had a black portion in the middle and could be detached anytime. Each half, when detached, was a meter long.

"Hold it in the middle and say 'Choo Choo' like a train would do." Haeckel instructed. Later on you could try detaching it into two. There's a b.u.t.ton underneath. Make sure to hold only the black portion of the staff when you press the b.u.t.ton though."

"Choo choo..." said Chouji with a meek voice.

Green light from the staff illuminated the room . A whirring sound was emitted by the stick in Chouji's hands. Because of its length, Chouji held it awkwardly.

"Be careful with that!" Haeckel warned.

"Is this a legitimate lightsaber?" Chouji asked while twisting the stick in the middle and pulling it in to two parts. He found the b.u.t.tons underneath and pressed the b.u.t.tons and was surprised even further.

The green light turned into red light.

"Except for the fact that it could only last for about five minutes in lightsaber mode, yes those are actual lightsabers. Don't worry, after waiting for five minutes, the lightsaber could be used again. You could also use it like a pole so you should not worry about its durability."

"If you're thinking about whether the red light version is stronger. You are mistaken. I made it so because it looked cooler."

Haeckel smiled. He had never felt so satisfied in a long time. It was a different kind of satisfaction when your creations are acknowledged by other people. He felt wonderful after seeing the amazed look on Chouji's face.

"Time to go." Haeckel walked out of the room.

Haeckel, Chouji and Merda, after six days of preparation, were finally leaving this place. Their destination: j.a.pan.
