Chapter 87 - Why He Left

Song Sheng left Song Pharmaceuticals because of his grandfather.

When Song Sheng was in business abroad, he received a call from Song Hai. They spoke for hours talking about the companies, the feud between their divided family, and if he was ever returning.

Song Sheng was dead set on not returning for another while. He couldn't. Not when he left because Song Sheng didn't trust himself around Qian Meigui. Even before he left, they were so close to crossing the line that he had to escape.

But then Song Hai asked why Song Sheng left. Song Sheng couldn't tell him. Then, his grandfather later revealed why he didn't give Song Rui the company. His grandfather said that Song Rui was too driven and that Song Rui would limit himself in the Entertainment industry.

He then gave Song Li, the second son, Song Entertainment, because he felt that he could take it. But Song Li grew too ambitious, too greedy. His grandfather wanted him to return home.

Song Sheng listened diligently. Until Song Sheng confessed why he left home was because he loved a woman he couldn't have. His grandfather then asked him if the woman was Qian Meigui by any chance. Song Sheng was reluctant to admit it; he did not even acknowledge to himself yet.

But then he confessed the truth. Out of all people, he told Song Hai everything. And his grandfather did not judge him. He revealed that he always knew that Qian Meigui wasn't his legitimate granddaughter.

He said that real Song's have their eyes, for generations. Though, it was something very superst.i.tious to believe as Song Sheng also took lessons in genetics, knowing that it was nearly impossible that all his children inherited Song Rui's eyes. But it happened nonetheless and his grandfather figured it out.

His grandfather told him to come home. That he can have a position in Song Entertainment, because he needed him since his sons and other grandsons were too selfish. He needed someone he could trust to succeed him in the industry. He also admitted that he was sick and that dying any day now was imminent. So Song Sheng packed his things and came home.

He bought an apartment once he landed, without seeing his family. He was afraid. They would have asked questions; he would have seen Qian Meigui, and he wasn't sure if he was ready for it. So he waited.

Then it came to a banquet celebrating his grandparent's 50th anniversary. He had to go and announce his departure from Song Pharmaceuticals. But when he was backstage, he made out the table that his siblings sat.

There was no mistaking the twins who looked practically identical because Jinyi had short hair while Jun kept his hair long to his shoulders. Song Ren looked like she quarrelling with the blonde guy. And right next to her, Qian Meigui sat and kept to herself as if she felt alone in a crowd. But she never realized that she stood out. Song Sheng's gaze shot to her immediately.

She wore a rose-laced dress that outlined her figure perfectly. Her hair was curled into loose waves, cascading over her shoulders. Her face was tight and tense as she looked around the room. Her gaze often lingered on the empty seat of the table. It made Song Sheng's heart skip a beat.

When he made went out to make his announcement, he had to prevent himself from glancing up at her. After two years of not seeing her, it still felt the same, as if he never left. His heart raced, his eyes darted at her; his desire surged.

After he finished speaking, he was supposed to sit with them, but he felt like leaving. That was when Song Ren stood up, calling out to him. When he turned around, she slapped him across the face, avenging the family for his thoughtless acts.

Song Sheng felt like he deserved it. He was glad that Song Ren hit him as he needed to regain his senses. She was furious for two reasons. He returned abruptly without telling them, and he left the company their father worked hard on.

He glanced towards Qian Meigui, who looked at them shocked and worried. He then left the banquet as he couldn't take it anymore. He knew it was his fault, but he thought he could dare himself to face them. He hoped they would forgive him soon.

Song Ren arrived at the main house with her mother, wearing all black for mourning. They took a seat next to Song Rui.

Qian Meigui began to read the results out loud. Each member of the family received positions in the company, shares, or some of the owners.h.i.+p. But there was that one aspect that they waited.

"Chairman Song Hai has proclaimed that his eldest grandson, Song Sheng, will succeed him as CEO of Song Entertainment," said Qian Meigui.

"He now has entire owners.h.i.+p of the company over his sons, as deserved by his success in obtaining more projects and revenue for the company, as well as partic.i.p.ating in film projects that make him the face of the industry," she finished reading his grandfather's written words.

She couldn't believe it. How? She thought that Song Li or one of his sons would inherit. She glanced over at Song Rui who looked both shocked and smug that his son had the rights of the entertainment company.

Song Sheng did not appear to be fazed by it. Perhaps he knew this entire time.

But Song Li stepped forward and ripped the papers from her hand, reading it over. His face was red with fury. He then began to chuckle, darkly, "That's not possible." He then looked over at Song Sheng who did not say anything, but give him a vacant expression.

"You did this on purpose!" Song Li accused him. "Your father wasn't going to inherit. So you and your d.a.m.n sister plotted to take both of the companies. Didn't you?" He was talking about Song Ren.

Song Sheng glanced up at him with knitted brows. Song Ren chuckled amusingly. Qian Meigui then stepped forward. "Don't accuse him of something he didn't do, when he was at the hospital to be there for him while you waited for him to die. For what? Inheritance?" she said.

Song Li shot her a dark look. "Shut your mouth, illegitimate daughter." Qian Meigui froze, rooted on her spot. Song Li smiled, noticing her expression. He smiled slyly. "Do you expect me to believe Yang Rei birthed you?" Qian Meigui could barely move or speak. She didn't know what to say. She couldn't deny it either.

"What do you mean?" she asked him. Song Li clicked his tongue, "You certainly didn't come from her. Otherwise, why don't I recall her ever being pregnant between Song Ren and the twins? You're probably Song Rui's b.a.s.t.a.r.d daughter."

Song Sheng stood up, "Enough!" he said, stepping close to him. Song Sheng towered their uncle. His gaze was dark with rage. He gently pushed Qian Meigui behind him. She grabbed his arm, and he felt her hand shaking.

"Insult her one more time, and I swear you would end up without a job or position in the company again, nor any other industry. Your fate will end up worse than my father's when you plotted to cast him out. But look at him, he's the CEO of his own company and his daughter will take it after him. Both companies will be run under a Song, as it should be and as it always will be. But only in Song Rui's family, not yours." Song Sheng stated.

Song Li looked small in comparison to his nephew, Song Sheng. They both shot dark gazes of resentment against each other. When they heard a slow clap from behind them, it was Song Ren.

Song Ren was smiling, but her expression was hard to read through her dark sungla.s.ses. She kept clapping sarcastically. Her face then darkened. "It's interesting, uncle," she began. "That you tried to f.u.c.k over my father and now try to insult my brother and sister." She then strode towards them until she slapped Song Li across the face, then grabbing his collar to face him. "You're a b.a.s.t.a.r.d, and this is our sweet revenge," she said with a faint smile. Qian Meigui s.h.i.+vered.

Soon after, Song Ren let go of him. She then grabbed Qian Meigui's hand and guided her out of the house. She was spewing insults about their uncle, while Song Sheng and the others followed behind them. Qian Meigui felt warm for the way they stood up for her.

"Xiao Mei," Yang Rei called out.

Qian Meigui paused abruptly before she turned to face her and Song Rui.

"Don't listen to them; you're a Song or a Qian. You can be whoever you want to be," Yang Rei told her. Qian Meigui's lips parted open, shocked.

"Thank you," She said to Yang Rei.

She then turned to face Song Sheng's whose face softened, and they smiled at each other knowingly.
