Chapter 41 - It's Time

Qian Meigui's eyes fluttered open. She stretched her arms out like a cat and yawned. Her hands patted around, looking for her phone and then she realized that she fell asleep in Song Sheng's bed. It was still morning when she checked the time, but she had to attend to work soon. Initially, it did not feel strange waking in his room because she was accustomed to it two years ago. But this was not two years ago; today, the relations.h.i.+p between them strained, but after last night, they had grown a better understanding of one another. Perhaps it indeed was for the best.

The bed s.p.a.ce next to her was empty, but Qian Meigui's body felt warm. Subconsciously, she hugged her waist, where her body heated the most. She s.h.i.+fted from the covers and made the bed. The rest of the room was sparkling clean, as Song Sheng must have tidied, knowing he would not come back.

She opened the door, walking down the hall, sneakily, avoiding Song Jinyi and Song Jun. She heard the sound of dishes and cutlery clas.h.i.+ng the marble island. They were having breakfast, she thought.

Qian Meigui walked into her bedroom quietly and approached her dresser. She changed into business attire: A typical black pencil skirt, white blouse, and black blazer. She applied on some light makeup and tightened her loose waves, leaving them unbound over her shoulders.

Qian Meigui quickly visited the kitchen, grabbing an apple hurridly trying to go to work.

"Bye" Qian Meigui heard Song Jinyi say.

Qian Meigui glanced at the twins swiftly, yelling back, "See you two later!" She stumbled as she placed on her heels and went to the garage. Qian Meigui owned a grey Audi convertible. She drove to work, hoping to make it on time.

Song Ren was in her office, typing away when her secretary Yang Minzhe walked in. Song Ren was solely focused on her screen to notice him walk in.

"President," he called out to her. Song Ren continued to type away speedily, her eyebrows furrowed and focused, not answering him. "It's about the corporate meeting soon," he said.

"Cancel the meeting," she said abruptly, her fingers not leaving the keyboard.

"Why?" Yang Minzhe asked. He had followed Song Ren for years; therefore, he was never afraid to question her. Despite getting angry or annoyed most times, she would never to let him go.

"Can you arrange a public announcement? Request media outlets, preferably local industries. Let them know I am going to address the case concerning the Jian's," she said.

"Is that a good idea taking this publicly?" Yang Minzhe asked worryingly, "Would there not be any backlash?"

Song Ren paused on the keyboard; she curled her fingers into a fist, "I have prepared for any outcome," she responded coolly. Song Ren knew the consequences of doing this, but there were also benefits. If she defends the company now, then they could never be questioned without proper evidence. Song Ren, like Qian Meigui, too, suspected that someone was behind the company's downfall; she only wondered who was targeting them and why.

Yang Minzhe wore a worried expression. "I know what you're thinking. But it's time."

Yang Minzhe bowed and said, "It will be done by 2 p.m."

Song Ren nodded, "Thank you."

Yang Minzhe left the office. Song Ren rose, went to the staff room washroom. She tied her dress, fixed her makeup, adjusted the strands of her hair. She loosed a deep breath before leaving.

It's time.
