157 The Time Before The Sports Festival

We were quickly approaching a time where the school was planning for a big event. That's right, you guessed it, a sports festival. It was a simple event that didn't mean much to us Sixth formers, as we didn't need to care about it. We could help around with things or just support a team. I don't know what most people are doing but I know what I'm doing.

"Hey, Owen," Ethan asked me. "What are you doing?"

"Don't you know? I'm not going in."

"Same," Ethan said slumping down next to me. "The event is Friday but I'll just take the day off. I think that's what most people will do."

"It's the smart thing to do after all."

"Hey, guys!" Sean ran up to us as we lifted our heads slightly to see him. "I've decided."

"Congrats!" I said. "Can you also get me a drink whilst you are there?"

"Huh, what are you talking about?" He said. "I decided on a drink a while ago. This is more important than a drink. In fact, I've already got my drink."

Sean held his drink in his hand and casually showed it off like product placement. Looking at it makes me kinda sad he didn't ask me for what I wanted.

"Oh? what is it?" Ethan said almost asleep.

"I'm going to ask Lily out."

"WHAT!" Ethan screamed jumping out of his chair with a bolt of energy. "That can't happen. I was meant to be the first to get a girlfriend!"

"Oh, dear," I said using my bag as a pillow. "How will you do it?"

"I'm going to ask her out during the festival on Friday."

"Will she even show up?" I asked since Ethan was too distracted at what he had just heard. "Didn't she hate them or something?"

"She said she was going to watch. I said I'll go with her."

What a nice couple. I'm sure there will probably be some sort of PTSD from Lily but with Sean there maybe things will work out.

"What made you suddenly decide?" I asked.

"I don't know. I thought that maybe it's better sooner. I don't know if things will stay the same but after meeting a girl from her old school, I thought that I want to do it soon."

I wasn't sure I understood Sean's process. He was a bit strange but I guess it is better if he did it sooner. You never know when a new character will get introduced and steal her away.

"OKAY!" Ethan screamed out of his chair. "I'll go confess now!"

As much as I was used to Ethan's lying about his confession attempts and also lying about moving on. I wasn't expecting him to actually walk out of the room. Considering he claimed this several times now. Maybe I should have been more shocked at it all. But perhaps it was clear he wouldn't move on for ages. It's not that simple forgetting about someone.

"Wait for me!" I said quickly running after him. "I want the gossip."

We found Kaylee standing at the bottom of the stairs, talking to Simon. Ethan and I stood behind a corner listening in to the conversation, with another person who wore a comical disguise.

"Oh, ho?" the person in a fake moustache and gla.s.ses said. Even though it was obviously Claire. "Are you both interested in this confession as well?" She asked.

"Confession?" Ethan said looking again to see the obvious signs of a confession, whatever they are. "I'm going to interrupt."

"How interesting," Claire said as she watched Ethan run into Kaylee and Simon's conversation. "Popcorn?" She asked me pulling out a bucket from somewhere. I'd be lying if I said I didn't take some.

"Kaylee!" Ethan called out and approached staring down Simon like an angry jealous boyfriend, I guess the roles have swapped.

"Ethan? What are you doing here?"

"What is he doing here?" Simon said equally as confused as all of us who were enjoying our movie.

"This sports festival," he said without messing up any words. "Will you go with me? No wait, forget that. Not the sports festival. In general, will you go out with me?"

Wow, what a sudden confidence boost. This dude must be on tons of drugs or some s.h.i.+t because he just did what took him 100 chapters to do last time.

"W-what?" Simon said. "Forget him. I want to get back with you!"

The two of them pushed Kaylee into a corner. You could see she wasn't comfortable but wasn't able to say anything. They both pressured her into answering but she barged through them and ran away faster than any of us could see.

"That was your fault," Ethan said letting out a big sigh.

"I think it was both our faults."

"Well done, guys," Claire said revealing herself. "Popcorn?"

"You were watching?" Simon said turning embarra.s.sed.

"Of course, who wouldn't want to watch a free movie?"

"In my defence, I knew it was going to end like this." I said, "I did spoil the movie for her."

"Well, what do we do now?" Ethan asked.

"Move on," Claire said with a smile on her face. "Girls don't like clingy boys."

"Ah, I see." Simon and Ethan said falling to the ground. Especially Ethan who was the G.o.d of clinginess.

"Moving on is hard…" Ethan said remembering everything from the past to further create more confusion to the story. Seriously? Why hasn't he moved on? All he does is say he will but never will.

They both went back to whatever it was they were doing before. Ethan and I went back to cla.s.s and I didn't hear much from him for a while. Ethan was quiet for most of the day and didn't seem to speak to anyone. Whenever I saw him he seemed to be in deep thought and covered in a mist of seriousness. I also heard the same was true for Simon.

Well, it seems as if this sports festival was going to be one to remember.
