Chapter 374

klands, the merchants in the Commercial Trading Firm also relaxed. Although they gave the t.i.tle of the president to Rosella, they were still afraid that Qian Jin would come to them and cause trouble. Now Qian Jin left with the Roll Family. Although a lot of the Roll Family’s business activity would still remain at Oakland, the knife that was hanging over their heads was gone.

The long travel was usually very boring, but Qian Jin didn’t find it boring at all. A bunch of them chatted and laughed for the whole trip.

Duren Burg praised Rosella’s marketing tactics, and he said that she was a born merchant. Rosella was b.u.t.tered up and gave him a pack of cigarettes. Duren Burg who was rewarded started to flatter Rosella even more, and Qian Jin had to kick him off of the carriage because of it.

Fanta Kunge thought about the conversation he had with Qian Jin about Land Tearing Chop and why he wasn’t able to use it smoothly. He talked with Qian Jin and asked questions as he tried to master the technique.

Qian Jin discovered that Fanta Kunge was talented, but his warrior energy didn’t fit Land Tearing Chop well.

Land Tearing Chop required an extremely powerful thrust, and the warrior power had to be consolidated and pressured in order to have that explosive effect. Qian Jin’s Wind and Cloud warrior power could mimic the bloodline fighting technique of Iron-Arm Mantis Bloodline, so using Land Tearing Technique wasn’t a problem.

Fanta Kunge’s 79 reservoirs training scroll was good, but it wasn’t enough to power this Divine Fighting Technique. At least at Fanta Kunge’s current level. Warrior power of higher quality could increase the advancement speed and it was also easier to power high-level fighting techniques.

"What should I do? Should I tell him to let go of all the level 4 Demon Fighter warrior power he has now and re-train using another training scroll?" Qian Jin hesitated. Fanta Family was a powerful family for a reason, and their best training scroll had its own advantages. Making any bold recommendation might harm Fanta Kunge and not help him.

Bang! A vibrating throwing knife appeared on the gate of the carriage. After Gabriella finished meditating, she practiced the shooting techniques as usual. After the duel between the Roll and the Cae Family and the battle she won at the General Exam, she realized how important a complementary technique was to a mage. Now, except meditation, she would train her knife throwing abilities. In her mage robe, there were 20 throwing knives on top of the magic scrolls that Rosella gifted her.

Cech Flet wondered as more and more throwing knives appeared on the wooden door of the carriage. After he saw Qian Jin piercing the throat of the two mages during the previous battle, he realized that this technique was the nightmare to all mages! "I should ask Qian Jin about this shooting technique when he has time." Cech Flet thought.

Yulee City, the state capital. It was the center of all economic and political activities in the state, and many powerful forces reside here. Just from looking at the thick and high defense walls and the heavy magic weapons on them, one can tell how important this city was.

If Oakland was beside this city, it would like building a shed beside a palace. Just the soldiers who were guarding the gate were high spirited. With 30 of them in a row, they looked impeccable.

There were a ton of people and merchants coming and leaving the city, Oakland wouldn’t compare with that at all.

The carriages of the Roll Family slowly stopped by the gate, and several soldiers already started to walk around them with weapons.

The examination before entering was something that occurred in every city. One, to check if there were any criminals, two, to check if there were any demon a.s.sa.s.sins, three, to check if there were any prohibited goods.

The soldiers walked around the carriages twice, and their smile on their faces disappeared. As more and more soldiers who guarded the gates started to get money from merchant groups, it became an unwritten rule that these soldiers had to be tipped.

Merchants were all about making money peacefully, so none of them would cause any trouble with the soldiers. Otherwise, these soldiers might check and examine all the carriages for weeks to absolute perfection before letting them through. If any merchants wanted to move ahead before the examination was done, it would "signify" that there was something wrong, and more trouble would come.

As time pa.s.sed, the merchants were all used to it. When they met these soldiers, they would tip them voluntarily. They also made a slang, "Easy to pa.s.s a Demon King, but hard to pa.s.s little undead."

Little undead were these soldiers who guarded the gate to the cities. They wouldn’t do much on the battlefield, but they were great at asking for money.

"Get off!" The team leader shouted with a hostile tone as he withdrew his blade and chopped on Fabreidis’ nice carriage; a few chop marks appeared on the outside of the carriage. "I suspect you guys are carrying prohibited...."

Before this provoking shout could complete, a slamming noise sounded. This team leader flew back for five meters and rolled on the dirt road. His body curled up as he whined.

"Yulee is one of the cities that I hate the most!" Fabreidis took back his feet as he frowned and looked at the soldiers that were surrounding them. "I just came back, and yet this s.h.i.+t happens!"

Attacking the soldiers was a serious offense! The soldiers soon surrounded the carriages, and they then quickly made a path as some of them kneeled down.

A mid-aged man in his fifties walked out. He was wearing a simple robe and had a plate and a sword hanging by his waist and a mage badge in front of his chest. He looked very majestic.

Warrior and mage dual trainer! Qian Jin was surprised to see this man. He then looked at the three people behind this man. One of them was in his twenties, he looked a bit arrogant and he had a sword that Qian Jin could tell it was a Warrior Weapon just from looking at its hilt! It might be even better than the one that Duren Burg was using!

Another one man was wearing the uniform of a Zence official. Qian Jin couldn’t sense any power from his, but he looked very sly.

The last person had a humpback, and he was wearing a dark blue mage robe. He had a wand with numerous magic arrays engraved on it and an egg-sized red magic stone embedded on the top.

Without out any test, this expensive wand already told Qian Jin that this mage who was in his sixties, had a pair of long eyebrows and a flat nose was a powerful mage; otherwise, his wand would be robbed or stolen.

"What is going on? Who upset the guardian of Oakland City, Mr. Fabreidis?" The man in his fifties looked at the soldier who got kicked onto the ground and said, "Don’t you have any eyes? This Fabreidis was one of the Three Heroes of Warrior Hall and vice-president of Torrent Battle Fort. Even if he killed you, no one dares to use the law against him."

Qian Jin felt like Fabreidis’ att.i.tude changed as this man appeared. Even when he appeared respectful towards Sabonis, he didn’t really care about the mayor.

Today, Qian Jin felt like Fabreidis was acting cautiously towards this man despite the fact that Fabreidis looked down on this man.

This was the first time that Qian Jin saw Fabreidis acting like this, so he naturally wondered about who this man was.

"York Leigh, I’m the guardian of Oakland, and I’m here with the Roll Family of Oakland. When someone raised the blade towards Oakland people, I will naturally protect them."

Fabreidis slowly walked back into the carriage as he whispered to Qian Jin. "This man is the mayor of Yulee. He looks young, but he is already more than 70 years old. He is one of the few in Yulee who has Soul Power, and he is also a good mage. He is about 20 years older than me, and he is considered a genius in his generation."

Qian Jin nodded. If he was going to study at Punitive Expedition War Academy, he would stay in Yulee for a while, and it would be necessary for him to know who the mayor was.

"The old mage beside him looks like he is 60 years old, but he is actually almost 90 years old." Fabreidis continued. "When I left Yulee, I heard that he was about to surpa.s.s the level of Supreme Mage and get into the rank of Ultimate Mage. That young man..."

The young man beside York Leigh got excited when he heard that it was the Roll Family. He looked pa.s.s Fabreidis as if he was able to see through the carriage.

"Roll Family?" The provoking expression on York Leigh’s face turned into a smile as he said, "Oh, the Roll Family who sold Spirit Advancement Potion? Arrest this criminal for scamming the merchants!"

Excitement flashed through the eyes of the soldier who was still on the ground when the mayor showed up, but his face changed as he heard that. He couldn’t believe how fast the mayor changed his att.i.tude.

A few personal guards of York Leigh dashed out and tied this soldier up like an animal despite the fact that he had a few broken ribs. Then they dragged him into the city while ignoring his cries.

"d.a.m.n!" Qian Jin was surprised. When this mayor showed up, it was obvious that he was going to support this soldier. But as soon as he heard it was the Roll Family, his att.i.tude changed immediately.

"Meeting the mayor out of coincidence?" Qian Jin peaked through the slit in the door and saw York Leigh’s sly smile. It was very likely that this mayor was waiting for the Roll Family to come today and that soldier even put on an act.

Letting the soldier to play the bad cop, then the mayor can show up and ease the situation so the Roll Family will be thankful of him. "It must be like that." Qian Jin thought. York Leigh probably didn’t antic.i.p.ate Fabreidis to be here and ruin the whole thing. He was probably mad, but he had to appear to take care of the situation.

"So..." Qian Jin tapped the window as he thought. "This mayor is also a great mage, so he doesn’t need my potion for spirit barrier. So why is he acting so friendly?"

York Leigh stood by the carriage. After he fixed his clothes, he said, "I’m the mayor of Yulee, York Leigh. Can I speak with the leader of the Roll Family?"

The graceful voice mixed with the high-up presence gave people the feeling that he was in control of everything.

Rosella took two deep breath as she squeezed the edges of her dress. She then pushed open the door and walked out. She antic.i.p.ated that situation, but she thought it was going to be one of the eight powerhouses at Yulee, and more likely the mage union. She didn’t expect the mayor to show up.

Everyone gasped when they saw Rosella who was in a green, flower patterned long dress walked out.

Almost no one thought the leader of the Roll Family was a female, a young woman. Even York Leigh who knew the leader of the Roll Family was a female was surprised. His eyes shone a little as his haughtiness decreased and the gentleness increased. "Wow, I didn’t expect the leader of the Roll Family to be this young and beautiful." He said.
