Nolan had painted a wall in their new home with black chalkboard paint. He was trying to paint a portrait of her before she discovered what he had been doing. A row of failed attempts were to the right of him in various stages of erasure. It was alright for her to see those, he knew. He was happy to see the empty apartment that was now his and hers. All due to a happy accident. Ellie had told him that the Braye family lawyer would come to visit him and he had been surprised that he was being given an apartment. The apartment had belonged to his half-sister which had soured him immediately, but Wu had urged him to not let the past dampen their present happiness.

Surprising once Wu had dragged him inside he had found the placement of the windows and the hardwood floors to be exactly the style of home he had folded over the page for in the clinic waiting room's copy of Architectural Digest. Wu had reflected his delight and had called Lopez to tell him they would like to have a lease issued in their names. It was almost too good to be true. This place was just a stone's throw from the hospital. It wasn't uncomfortably close to her hospital in the sense that she would have to worry about patients following her home.  The community was gated as well with security guard standing in the stairwell leading to the street which was a bonus for both of them. Nolan also enjoyed that by central location he could be a subway station away from NYU. It was nice to think he could go visit his old students and professors even though he was no longer attending. He knew that the new tenants of his apartment would be coming soon to move into his student housing. It was nice that the housing department had let him stay there until the semester was going to be up even though he was no longer attending the school.  It was a nicer administration that he had dealt with previously. It was nice living a simpler job and helping the woman who would be his wife with her practice. He world was open so he could pursue any number of interesting avenues.

Standing up slowly, he moved to the other side of the apartment to see the balcony which faced the hectic traffic outside.  The sound was a nice ambience to the empty rooms that they know owned. The size was definitely much smaller than the entire floor that the Wongs had for their main house.  Although it was less than what Henry had provided for Ellie, Nolan didn't feel self conscious. It was much larger than he had ever hoped to provide for his life parter. He could eventually see the whole family occupy this house, if Wu did decide she wanted to try for kids.  Nolan could see the two of them growing old in this house together and having the privilege of taking care of her for as long as she wanted to be around.

Running with a strange breathlessness that he hadn't felt since jumping off the slide at the playground in his suburbian home, he threw out his arms like he was in a movie and pretended like he could hold the top of the building.  It was childish, but he felt like indulging himself. He heard a snort behind him and he turned his head to see the sitting angel in one of the bar chairs in the kitchen.

His shoulders drooped as he turned fully to see that she had put on a white bathrobe and was fresh from the shower.  He felt himself grow hot as he tried to look away from the water creating a sweat-like sheen on her collarbones. Nolan wanted to touch her so he closed the balcony doors behind him as he approached her.  Her eyes darkened as he approached her.

"I'm glad I got to see that." She readjusted her bathrobe forwards to Nolan's eyes followed the edge of where it covered.  Janna's soft smile made his stomach do interesting flips. "It's been so long since I saw someone so happy.  A miracle given to you is really worth it. Seeing you look so makes me want to join you."

Nolan walked into her open arms and sighed as her calming lavender soap smell calmed him instantly.  It was as beautiful as all the parts of her he was pressed against. He touched her gently. "You know I am thankful for being able to living this long.  I really did think about ending it when they told me I was going to lose Ellie. I can't believe that such an angel as yourself could exist to be both my savior and lover.  It's many miracles multiplied. This is the only reason I could believe in a higher power is because you are around here to show me."

She spun him around and started to bit his lip in a very s.e.xual manner which was creating interesting thought to the glum reality that they really didn't have any furniture where the next steps could be comfortable.  He would need to rectify this as soon as possible. As she clutched at his collar, Nolan felt that his soul should leave his body, but knew he must do the deed that would upset her. He pushed back and gestured at the unfinished apartment around them while her mouth pucked into an adorable little pout. "I've been at work all day. Give me something to reward me for dealing with all those patients. I do adore my work, but I adore you more. But you do bring up a fair point we should have more fun when this place doesn't have exposed wood or other hazards that would impede the progress of me loving you." Her finger traced along his neck like a spider running towards her prey before she pulled back and sighed in a huff.

"I apologize I'm not really familiar with construction companies like my good brother Henry. I'm bartering on pricing because he is in England with Ellie. I'm quite lost and I'm sure I'm going to be scammed. I should have studied finance instead of science. Science has little practical applications here."

"I know medicine. However, I know little about nutrition. They only teach me how to heal ailments, not how to prevent them. There's a whole other kind of schooling that's osteopathic which prioritizes that. I'm just about as silly as you because I have no idea either. But seeing you try is very commendable." She snuggled into his neck and Nolan felt strangely comforted that she believed in his inexperience. Nolan pulled up the list on his phone and showed her. "Here's all the offers that the contractors have given me. The workers need insurance as well that they want me to pay."

"Are you sure that this can't wait for the professionals from Wong Industries?"
