17 Chapter 17

Lance helped Lovell as they walked to a park, setting Lovell down to rest. Lance checked over Lovell seeing if there were any severe injuries. Lovell looked up at Lance, "I think I'll be fine; besides I can always use—"

Lance touched his sides, making Lovell wince in pain. "Well, you need a doctor or a healer to look at you." Lance is swinging Lovell's arm over him. "Come on; let's go searching for one."

Lovell winced as he stood holding his side, Lance knew it was bad enough for Lovell to move anymore. "What's wrong with me?" Lovell looked at his hand seeing blood from his injury. "Oh pryne, Lance what is the date today?"

Lance looked at Lovell seeing the blood. "It's, I think Lark thirty-three, why is that important at a time like this?"

Lovell could feel his body weakening, "Because of my beastman blood I am weakened around the new moon of Larin." Lovell tried to stay awake knowing every moment count as he lost consciousness. He could hear Lance calling out to him to stay with him as he felt his body dragged along.

Lovell woke to see a man chatting with Lance, "—So he'll make a full recovery then?"

The man smiled as Lovell sat up. "Yes, he's lucky that he told of his weakness, I was able to imitate Larins wavelengths to reactivate his natural healing abilities—" The man looked over to Lovell, "Ah, your awake then, I see?"

Lance hugged Lovell as he began to cry, Lovell smiled at him, "You are one giant cry baby over this."

Lance sat back as he calmed himself, then slapped him. "That's for scaring me, you idiot!"

Lovell rubbed his cheek, "I already know in a kynroc."

The man looked at Lovell, "Young man are you by chance part theyan?"

Lovell looked at him; he sighed, "Yeah, its obvious with that word wasn't it?"

The man nodded. "Very obvious if you don't know of the threyysh language." The man handed over Lovell a cla.s.s filled with a liquid. "Now drink this, and you will free to leave." The man smiled as Lovell took the gla.s.s from him. Lovell hesitantly chugged down the liquid; he felt the liquids power course through him healing his wounds.

Lovell thanked the man as he got himself redressed, meeting Lance outside. "Sorry to make you worry, but can you keep this between us and not let Luna worry?"

Lance scorned Lovell as they walked down the streets. Lovell noticed that they were in the fall districts commons area, he looked over to the far side when he saw something. Lovell squinted his eyes to see what it was; then he noticed the mask.

Lance turned to Lovell as he noticed he was running off somewhere. "Lovell, wait up; you're not fully healed!"

Lovell gave chase to the masked man, as he turned down an alleyway. The man placed his dagger on Lovell's neck before he entered the alley. "Who are you and what do you—wait, Lovell?" Kyle removed his mask as Lovell smiled at him. "What are you doing here?"

Lovell smiled, "I could ask you the same thing, Kyle?"

Lance huffed as he caught up to Lovell, "Lovell what's—what's the rush?"

Kyle looked at Lances, as sweat poured down of him. "Who is this Lovell?"

Lovell sighed, "Lance, a friend and fellow Ren-Ky warrior."

Kyle whipped his head at Lovell, "You have to be joking?" Lovell shook his head. "Well, this changes things, but first tell me why you are doing here?"

Lovell leaned against the wall. "I went looking for my old gang, and found out that Ark was captured, we originally came just to save his ryy or a.s.s but ended up with a job to stop the advisor who is working in tangent with the Faremin forces."

Kyle sighed as he held his head, "Just my luck, I can here to meet with my mother to decipher some of Vann's notes, and now this is going on." Kyle turned to Lance as he fell to his rear. "Is he going to be ok?"

Lovell looked at Lance, "Yeah, somehow? Lance is Lance, lazy but reliable."

Lance shot a look at Lovell. "Hey, I am just not a runner, even though I'm a knight of Grand Dale." Kyle and Lovell stared at him. "What? Gale has seen me train, and he knows when I think of running or any severe hard work I get tuckered out."

Kyle burst out laughing at him, "That sound like the Pendragon family I have heard rumours of."

Lovell turned to Kyle. "well we got separated from our other companion, and we don't know the area, might we join you?"

Kyle calmed as he turned to Lovell. "Sure, I did grow up in this city years ago."

Lovell stood up as Lance propped himself up, following Kyle down the alleyways to a small shop. Lance recognized the sign but couldn't put his finger on where. Kyle checks to see if the shop was open before they headed to the back. Kyle picked the lock, within moments the lock opened. Lovell entered first as Lance followed behind.

Kyle shut the door behind them. "it seems she's out for a while, so take a seat, and I'll make some tea."

Lance turned Kyle. "So, why don't you have a key?"

Kyle smiled as he grabbed some cups before filling the kettle. "Because it would give me away within the faremin forces that I might be a spy?"

Lance dropped his mouth as he turned to Lovell. "Makes sense considering you helped me escape?"

Kyle set the kettle on the stove top and ignited the burner. "Yeah, where did you end up at afterwards?"

Kyle sat down with Lovell, "Fallmist believe it or not. Landing in the lap of the Rosier house."

Kyle stunned as he looked at Lovell, "You must have had a mana drain after that jump?"

Lovell laughed, as Lance watched them chat. "Yeah, I was bedridden for twenty days, but after that, I met some twins, and the only daughter came with me to Summerwind where I was reunited with Lance and Gale."

The kettle began to whistle. Kyle got up and fixed them some tea. "Sound like you had some trip back to then. I heard about what happened before I headed out myself." Kyle placed the tea on the table before sitting back down.

Lovell looked at the tea. "Yeah, Luna was there, and well, a friend of hers was conscripted into the forces after Marewoods was taken over. He died just before we all left town." As Lovell took a drink of the tea.

Kyle stared at him. "I am betting she saw."

Lovell shook his head. "No, but I made a summons contract with him as he was dying to keep his wish of protecting her."

Kyle leaned back as he stared at the ceiling. "This war hurt too many people and its hard to imagine that hope is finally showing its face after all these years. With Luan surviving to adulthood and all the Ren-Ky warriors are being found." Kyle turned to lances glaring eyes, "So, how many of your company are Ren-Ky warriors?"

Lovell turned to Lance, "other than Luna and Fang, all of us."

Kyle spat out his tea, "Wait all six are together?!" Lovell nodded at him. "by the heavens that means, that the Jewels are going to call out for their rightful wielders."

Lance tilted his head at Kyle, "what are these jewels?"

Kyle closed his eyes. "These jewels are known as the Ren-Ky jewels, one for each warrior," Lovell remember he had a jewelled pendant as a keepsake from Ark.

He pulled it out, showing a two-toned jewel, composed of a pearl and onyx. "Hey, Kyle would this be one of them?"

Kyle looked over, he stood up grabbing the pendant, "Where and when did you get this and how was it not noticed before?!"

Lance tilted his head, "You mean that thing is one of them?"

Kyle nodded as Lovell sighed. "One, Ark gave it to me years ago, two I don't think the men at that fortress knew what it was and never took it off me."

Lance and Kyle stared at Lovell; he could feel the air stagnate as they looked at him. Then the sound of a door opening caught their attention.

"Hey, Kyle sorry for the wait, those n.o.bles are horrible when it comes to traffic—Oh, it you." A young girl entered the room pointing at Lance, as they stared at her.

Kyle looked at Lance, "You two met already?"

Lance looked at her for a moment; then it hit him as he called out her name. "Alli!"

Alli smiled, "Yup, how's your friend Gale doing?" Her childish demeanour caught Lovell off, as she walked over.

Lance smiled, as he childishly rubbed his head. "He's doing great; he finally got used to changing back and forth, oh and we met up with, as you can see, with another friend that left us." Lance turned to Lovell. "This is Lovell, Lovell this is—"

"Alli the ancient, or that's how Kyle put it." Lovell stared at Kyle, "and I thought you met her once?"

Alli grabbed her self a gla.s.s, "Yes he did before he was taken from me years ago." Alli's voice changed as Lovell and Lance looked at her, Alli's primitive form turned into that of young women. "What never seen the de-ageing spell in action?"

Lovell tilted his head, "No, I have I just never expected that you look, well familiar to me in this form?"

Lance snapped out as he gawked at Alli, "Well, this is new to me?"

Alli laughed at them, "Well, I have done dealings with the Goannas in the past. So, it might be possible that you have seen me, but we never interacted?"

Kyle coughed, catching their attention. "Any way mother, we did come here I reminisce on the past." Kyle pulled out some notes from his bag.

Alli clapped her hands, "Ah, yes that kitsune's research notes." She sat down, taking them from Kyle, as she sifted through them, she became puzzled. Plopping them on the table, she growled. "I can't read them, and they're in a tough code."

Lovell pulled them over to him, "Do you have a pen and paper I could use?" Kyle nodded as he went to get them, handing them to Lovell. "Thanks."

Lovell started to read over the content, as Alli watched him jot down words. "Wait, you can read that?"

Lovell stopped as he looked up at her, "Yeah, Ark taught me how to decipher these kinds of codes." He showed her what he had in the short amount of time. "look here, this first part takes about how they make the clones mindless, but then it talks about how they will kill themselves if they show any emotions."

Kyle moved over to see, as Alli sifted through Lovells decipher. "So, then why is Hunter different Kyle?"

Kyle looked over to see Alli stared at through the corner of her eye; Kyle sighed, "It might have something to do with Azoth taking him on as a pupil, where he was taught that it was ok compared to the others as he grew into a person."

Lovell could see that he was worried about Hunter. "Any way I can decipher the rest, but I might be here a long while going through the material?" Lovell flipped through the papers sighing at the amount.

Alli nodded at him. "That's ok as long as you get it done by the morning; there shouldn't be a problem since I will be having a customer come in at twelve to noon."

Lovell leaned back and stretched. "Well, I better get cracking then."

Lance turned to Kyle, "So, you're the one who helped Lovell escape?"

Kyle smiled as he rested his head on his hand. "Yeah, and I'm friends with the one who captured him as well." Lance stared at him. "But I and a few others are trying to get him out before the eradicate him."

Lance watched as Alli walked away, "How so?"

Kyle looked over at his mother. "Well, Hunter is changing faster than we antic.i.p.ated and he must be confused through it all, but my main worry is when the dark lord finds out what's been going on me and the others will be killed off like fleas."

Lance's face darkened at the thought. "Oh, I see, and you want what's best for him, as a real person not what someone made in a lab if I'm right?"

Kyle nodded as he turned to Lovell; seeing him focus made him think of Hunter. "You know, if Hunter was never created, I would have stayed loyal to them and never would have reconnected with my mother." Kyle laughed, "Besides seeing Lovell work like that reminds me how Hunter was when I taught him to read and write."

Lance smiled, "Hunter might sound like a bad guy, but deep down you seem to know that he was a good person, miss guided, but none the less an honest to good person." Lance jumped up. Kyle looked at him seeing his energetic face blossom. "if anything happens, I think Lovell can forgive him and let him join us." Lance turned to Kyle smiling a huge grin across his face. "Besides I think I can forgive him and who knows he might just become something more than even you thought!"

Kyle began to well up, as he heard Lance's words. He wiped the tears away, as he smiled at Lance's enthusiasm. "I hope so, but it seems Lovell is in his own little world and didn't hear a thing."

Lovell looked up from the papers, "Huh? Did you guys say something?" Kyle and Lance looked at each other as they burst out laughing at him. Lovell felt confused at what just happened. "What did I do?"

Alli walked over with food, "Nothing but it seems that they got along very well and had a moment."

Lovell stared at them as he thanked Alli. "Hey guys, calm down a bit you're making me worry here."

Lance wiped the tears away. "Sorry Lovell but your reaction was just gold."

Alli smiled as she pulled a stone from around her neck and handed it to Lance. "Here, you will need it more than me."

Kyle stood up as she held it. "Mother are you sure about this, most of them earn—"

Alli glared at him, and Kyle froze as his mother gave him the cold shoulder. "He has earned it!"

Lance looked at Alli. "What is that stone there Alli?"

She smiled as she turned to him, her face calm compared to looking at her son. "It's the Ren-Ky Jewel of wind, just like Lovells is the one for balance."

Lovell looked down to see that it was still out. "So, this is what Kyle thought it was then?"

Alli playfully waved her finger. "That's right, and for every Ren-Ky there was a stone to go with them. Long ago before I betrayed the other Ren-Ky's, I was the one on Wind like your friend Lance is know."

Lovell and Lance stared at her in shock. Lance opened his mouth. "Wait, then you are my predecessor?"

Alli closed her eyes as she placed the jewel on the table. "Sadly, yes, but I thought at the time I was doing the right thing at the time." She sat down and laced her hands together. "I had joined the Faremin forces thinking that they were the real good guys and believed every word until they killed an infant that was one of Lunatica's reincarnations, that's when I left and cursed my body until I could pa.s.s on the stone t the next embodiment of freedom."

Lance looked at the stone, "So, let me get this straight if I take the stone you'll die?"

Alli smiled at him. "Not right away but in a year or two I will have, besides Lovell has done a great job protecting her from a young age. Even if he wasn't a part of her life."

Lovell smiled at her. "That means a lot and one other thing."

Alli looked at Lovell. "What is it?"

Lovell held the papers up. "I finished not long ago."

Kyle swiped the papers from Lovell; he began to read it, his eye hallowed. "No, it can't be?"

Alli stared at him. "What do they say, son?"

Kyle started to shake in fear, "Mother you know of the weapon you hide away by the inferring mountains?" Alli nodded at him. "Well, that weapon is going to be used to brainwash every soldier at every front line." Kyle stood up. "I need to leave now. I'm sorry, but I need to get there before they do!"

Alli sighed. "At least I got to talk to you before you left my little spitfire." She stood up and hugged Kyle. "Take care and don't die out there."

Kyle squeezed his mother, "I won't." he turned to Lovell. "I'll find you guys at a later date, with Hunter in tow." Kyle walked away, "Until next time."

Lovell and Lance wished him luck as he closed the door. Lance looked at the jewel and decided to grab it. Alli looked at him. "Take good care of it their, Lance."

Lance nodded as he walked over to the door. Lovell got up stand shook Alli's hand. "Thanks for your help. Alli, hopefully, I will see you again before your end time."

Alli smiled, "Doubt we will see each other again, but you make sure you don't get lost along your journey?" Lovell nodded as he followed Lance out the door, leaving Alli hoping for the best in all of their quests of peace.
