It was common knowledge that powerful death sorcerers were able to attack from a mile away. If the spell was a large scale one, the attacking range could be even further. Large scale spells required a long time to prepare, at least half an hour. Some spells that were grade-9 and above might even require more than six hours.

The Qin battalion commander conducted his attacks a mile away from the city wall and under the protection of the sorcerer.

He possessed the abilities of a zun grand swordmaster. With a sorcerer by his side, he did not fear the death sorcerer Mu En.

When the sorcerer beside the battalion commander saw two shadows flying towards them from the top of the city wall, he smiled.

ā€œGeneral, the enemy is coming for you.ā€ With that, he took out a black-colored scroll. If he could eliminate the most powerful creature under the death sorcerer, it would be worth it even if he used up a grade-8 scroll. His Lord would provide him with another one anyway.

It was clear that the death sorcerer must have totally used up all his mental strength, he could only send forth the creatures bonded to him to fight on his behalf. Too bad, this would go against the combat rules of mages. By allowing his bonded creatures to be so far away from him, he would not be able to control them well.

Even if it was a grade-8 creature, there would be loopholes that could be exploited.

The sorcerer did not believe that both creatures flying towards them were equally powerful. He instructed the grand mages around him, ā€œTake out all your scrolls. No need to scrimp and save on them.ā€

Cuisiā€™s eyes turned bloodshot as the whip in his hands became a pike and pointed at the battalion commander. The soldiers on the exterior began to raise their crossbows and shot at will.

Cuisi and the winged skeleton were more than ten yards apart, one on the left and one on the right. Most of the crossbow arrows were aimed at Cuisi. The devil armor that he wore shone with black light. Only one arrow managed to shoot through the armor while the rest were deflected away.

The single arrow that managed to shoot through the armor was decomposed immediately. Before the tip of the arrow could even touch Cuisiā€™s skin, the shaft of the arrow had already broken. When the sorcerer saw this, he quickly unveiled the black scroll in his hands. A beam of magic light shone and hundreds of magic runes appeared from thin air. Amidst the runes, a twenty yard long light spear shot out towards Cuisi.

The winged skeleton was right. The sorcerer had focused his attention on Cuisiā€™s eight yard tall figure. After seeing how the crossbow arrows had no effects on Cuisi, the sorcerer had immediately used his grade-8 spell on Cuisi.

The winged skeleton suddenly sped up and there was an explosive boom sound.

Triangular-shaped black magic patterns scattered from the winged skeletonā€™s giant axe. At the same time, the five grade-4 mages used their gray scrolls to trigger magic chain and a huge grade-5 spell appeared. Six-hundred to seven-hundred fire serpents appeared out of nowhere and coiled themselves around the winged skeleton. The black magic patterns that he had released earlier on began to cut up these fire serpents. With the giant axe in the winged skeletonā€™s hands, the black cutting edge of the blade now carried orange flames after cutting up all the fire serpents. The winged skeleton charged towards the grade-4 grand mages.

The five grade-4 grand mages had yet to prepare their second spell. With the appearance of such a fierce and murderous death creature, two of the mages immediately cast ice plate armor for the people around them.

Three of the grade-4 mages cast more than twenty ice blades to block the winged skeleton from advancing further.

The grade-7 sorcerer was horrified to see that after using his grade-8 magic scroll, the gigantic creature has paralyzed in mid-air, but another spirit of the dead armed with a giant axe was heading straight towards him. By then, he had already used up all his mental strength after casting the grade-8 spell. If only he had five seconds to consume magic liquid so that he could recover enough mental strength to activate the defense spell in his magic robe.

There was no time. The silver soul flame raged from behind the the winged skeletonā€™s crystal mask. His giant axe suddenly cast death ripple. Howls of despair were released from the axe. It caused the soldiers that were originally shooting at the skeletons to cover their ears in pain and to squat down.

The huge light spear shot towards Cuisi. He spit out a ball and enclosed himself entirely in it. When the light spear made contact with the ball, the latter managed to block the formerā€™s attack. Nevertheless, the light spear did not disperse immediately. Instead, it attacked the ball fervently. Cuisi was furious. He finally realized that he had fallen into the winged skeletonā€™s trap.

Resisting grade-8 spells would not be easy and it would be difficult to escape unscathed. Cuisi threw out his whip which became a flying dragon and pounced onto the battalion commander. Both parties were less than thirty yards apart and the whip was already sixteen yards long. It appeared in front of the battalion commander the moment it was released.

The Qin battalion commander was no weakling either. Within a short time, his Qin eight-sided sword was already releasing sword aura aggressively and he swiped at the whip.

The winged skeleton laughed maniacally. He had overcome the grade-5 spell and cut up hundreds of fire serpents. He was now above the sorcerer and was about to swing his axe down.

There were no tricks this time, just the the winged skeletonā€™s speed and the giant axeā€™s weight. There was an air of certainty as the axe swung from that height. All the surrounding soldiers were unable to interfere after being a.s.saulted by his death magic.

The Qin sorcerer was terrified. He bit off the tip of his tongue and forcefully increased his mental strength. Instantaneously, he cast a grade-7 defense spell; the crystal guardian.

Crystal guardian was said to be the most powerful physical defense spell amongst high-level spells. Water elements around the sorcerer condensed instantaneously and released beams of bright light. This element defense was more than a foot thick. Even large-scale alchemy crossbows would not be able to pierce through it.

When the giant axe blade made contact with the crystal guardian, the winged skeleton felt as if his bones would almost break from the impact. As a result of the attack, countless cracks appeared on the crystal guardian too.

The sorcerer was pleased. He was afraid that the crystal guardian would lose its effect. It could repair itself. Since the winged skeleton was not able to break through with his first attack, the crystal guardian would definitely be able to repair itself in time for the second attack. He took out a bottle of magic liquid and was about to consume it.

The winged skeleton did not retrieve his giant axe. From the crescent-shaped silhouette, a black sphere penetrated the defense of the crystal guardian and cut onto the sorcererā€™s head. This black sphere was like a mini version of an axe and it was filled with a thick death aura.

The sorcerer felt as if a line had opened from the top of his head. There was a comfortable and cooling feeling that began from his head and traveled all the way down to his groin. The sorcerer could almost hear a clear and distinct sound of ā€˜crackā€™ from the deepest region of his soul.

The ice blades around the winged skeleton were still spinning maniacally, attempting to pierce through his armor. the winged skeletonā€™s armor was filled with crescent-shaped white markings. The three grand magesā€™ ice blades were unable to break through his defense since it was a low-level magic that was cast haphazardly. The winged skeleton did not pay any attention to it.

The Qin army was shocked to see these two murderous creatures attacking their chief commander directly and no one was able to help. Even the alchemy crossbows on the exterior were still in the midst of adjusting their aim.

Soul axe blade was a grade-8 death spell that the winged skeleton had invented. It cut the sorcererā€™s soul into half. Interestingly, there was no sign of injury on the element sorcererā€™s physical body.

After being attacked physically and with spells, the element sorcerer was enraged. If he was a grade-8 sorcerer and could cast crystal reflection, he would not have been killed by such a sneaky attack.

The remnants of mental strengths on the light spear dispersed and the light spear began to transform. A grade-8 spell would not vanish just because the mage had died.

The huge light spear split into hundreds of tiny light arrows and shot at Cuisi in all directions. The ball that had enveloped Cuisi could not hold up against these arrows and finally broke. These light arrows were able to seek out the weaknesses of the ball automatically. Since Cuisi was not an expert in magic, there was no way he could defend against it.

Hundreds of tiny holes were pierced into his gigantic wings by the light arrows. They quickly began to bleed.

Cuisi howled in rage as his injuries began to curl up and shrink. Although his howl was loud, he was less furious now because he suddenly understood that if the light spear had attacked the winged skeleton instead, the latter would be severely injured.

Although this light spear was not a divine spell of the Holy See, it was still very effective against spirits of the dead. Since he was a demon, he was not afraid of any cleansing by the light element.

Even with unbearable pain in his wings, Cuisi swooped down towards the five grade-4 mages. With his limbs each grasping the neck of a mage, he swept his long tail and wrapped the last grand mage tightly.

Ice plate armor was indeed a powerful defense spell. Although it was no crystal guardian, Cuisi was still unable to crush them easily. At that point, Cuisi finally revealed the crazed and violent side of a demon. He smashed the grand mages in his limbs and tail violently onto the ground.

These grand mages fainted. Although ice plate armor could stop the demonā€™s claws, it could not prevent such a strong impact. In the grasp of the demonā€™s claws, their magic could not soften the impact. If not for Cuisiā€™s fear of breaking his teeth, he would have bit them immediately. No one would be able to save them.

The Qin battalion commander hacked at Cuisiā€™s whip with his Qin eight-sided sword, but its powerful sword aura was broken instantaneously. The whip could not be stopped. The Qin battalion commander could not dodge completely and could only turn sideways. Sharp spikes suddenly appeared on the whip which tore open his armor and shaved off the flesh on half of the battalion commanderā€™s body, leaving only bones behind.

Without the sorcerer to heal him, this battalion commander would die very soon.

The spell stored in the winged skeletonā€™s giant axe was limited. Nevertheless, he refused to bring Cuisi back yet. Cuisiā€™s wings were badly injured and he was still attacking the grand mages. On the other hand, the winged skeleton had already fallen onto the ground. He raised his giant axe once again and hacked at the crystal guardian with force.

Without the sorcererā€™s control, the crystal guardian which was already damaged finally cracked completely. Shards of water element flew in all directions and pierced through many of the Qin soldiers that were rus.h.i.+ng forward to help.

The winged skeleton grabbed the sorcererā€™s skull and placed his giant axe on his throat. Looking at the man, the winged skeleton said coldly, ā€œGoing against my Master was your mistake. Now you shall die!ā€
