Saleen was slightly outraged, but he quickly cooled down.

There were traces of divine spells inside his Sound Transmission Magic Array, any words which pa.s.sed through this magic array would have the ability to delude other people. This was similar to the Holy See’s preaching, it was able to control one’s heart invisibly.

There were suggestive spells and mental spells in magic too. They could not be considered despicable, they were just a form of skill.

“I didn’t ask these people to wors.h.i.+p me.”

Saleen consoled himself in this manner, but he did not realize that if he verbalized such words daily, he would undergo subtle changes to his character. Eventually, he would have his first batch of believers.

After all that cheering, Saleen would surely attract a huge reaction from the audience no matter what he said next.

Saleen himself did not even know what he had said. He wanted motivate everyone to destroy the evil Holy See. Within this arena people might join in the flurry of shouts in a moment of impulse. In actual fact, after most of the civilians had left, they would not go create trouble for the Holy See like what fanatic believers would do.

The next time the Holy See came to invade Metatrin City, Saleen would not have to worry about the issue of manpower anymore. A seed had been planted in the hearts of every person who was deluded.

The arena match officially began. Saleen switched off the Sound Transmission Magic Array, then said with a sigh, “Eleanor, it isn’t very good to be doing such a thing.”

“That was my request.” From the sidelines, Nicholas interjected, “Sir, this is the best opportunity. In the future, if each of your cities has an arena like this, there will be a huge number of spectators coming weekly to watch the compet.i.tion. Such a speech will thus be a great opportunity for you!”

Saleen did not rebut, he knew that he had to carry out such events frequently in order to fulfill the G.o.ddess’ wishes.

As this was the first arena compet.i.tion, the league had not entered the final phase of sixteen people yet. Instead, over one-hundred people had signed up for this compet.i.tion. Of these over one-hundred partic.i.p.ants, no one’s grade was lower than a swordmaster. During the registration process, candidates whose powers were too weak had been eliminated.

In order to enter the finals and become one of the sixteen lucky people, the compet.i.tors did not have to kill one another. Under Eleanor’s directions, each person had to face a creature above or at grade-4.

The audience had no clue as to who the first compet.i.tor was, but his opponent was a gigantic skeletal crocodile. This skeletal crocodile was dozens of yards in length, it was a grade-4 death creature. Its opponent was only clad in cloth and wielded a Qin cutla.s.s.

“The first match shall begin! The courageous warrior who has partic.i.p.ated in this compet.i.tion is from Phoenix Duchy, Londee from Prima Province! He will be facing a death creature which is twelve yards long, let’s cheer him on!”

In the arena, the man holding a cutla.s.s was feeling extremely nervous. During registration, he had already been notified that he would fight a death creature. He had killed a number of magic beasts, but he had never dueled with a death creature.

The spectators in the arena began cheering once more. They were answering to the emcee’s request, helping to encourage this brave warrior.

Londee became very enthusiastic, he still did not know that his appearance had been captured by the magic array. Londee’s face had been magnified dozens of times in a screen above him. The fifty over thousand people in the arena could observe the expression on his face clearly.

“I have to kill a powerful death creature before tens of thousands of people, so many people are watching and encouraging me.” A look of insanity flashed in Londee’s eyes.

The compet.i.tors had been informed that they did not need to put their lives at stake. If they felt that they could not triumph, they could well back out of the compet.i.tion. Londee never thought of retreating. Even though he had the powers of a swordmaster, he was too poor, he could not even afford a longsword. When the expeditionary army attacked, Saleen had once recruited mercenaries to partake in the defensive efforts. Even some people who did not belong to any organizations could register and join the servant army.

The problem was Londee was rejected from the army because he did not even own simple leather armor.

Later on, he borrowed some money from the only friend he knew in the city and purchased the cheapest cutla.s.s so that he could sign up for the arena compet.i.tion.

Londee had the option of going to the town hall to apply for a position in the army, but he felt indignant that a swordmaster had to start off as a trooper. Since the city owner was looking for talents, this was his chance.

The spectators’ voices softened. There was magic at work here, as well as the effect from the audience’s mental state. Everyone held their breaths, looking at the magic image. That skeletal crocodile climbed out of a hole, shaking its head about while searching for prey.

Unbeknownst to the spectators and Londee, this skeletal crocodile had been produced by Daniel. It would attack all targets, but could not kill them. This meant that no matter how severely injured Londee was his soul would not be devoured by this death creature.

The atmosphere was unusually tense. Very soon, the skeletal crocodile had discovered its prey. There was only one human wielding a cutla.s.s standing in this barren arena, the skeletal crocodile stared at Londee in a hostile manner.

The spectators were one-hundred times more anxious than Londee. After discovering his target, Londee bent down and grabbed a handful of dust, molding it into a pellet the size of a fingertip.

A pellet in the left hand and a cutla.s.s in the right. Just like that, Londee lowered his stature as he crept towards the skeletal crocodile.

The skeletal crocodile opened its mouth as its razor sharp teeth glowed with a frosty radiance. The magic array in the arena faithfully displayed this scene to the audience. Among the spectators, perhaps only a few would run into a powerful adversary or magic beast at some point during their lives. At the moment, a live death creature had appeared before their eyes, such a thrill was intense.

In Cloudflow, some n.o.bles would capture magic beasts and place them in enclosures, allowing the normal people to view them. The magic nuclei of these magic beasts had been destroyed, so they could not release magic. They were abnormally obedient and gentle as a result.

At this point in time, the spectators were looking at a wild and perhaps bloodthirsty spirit. This spirit would either devour that lad wielding a cutla.s.s, or it would be slaughtered by this fellow.

What could be more exhilarating than this?

A normal person would not meet with much danger throughout their lives. If there were no wars, a farmer might simply conduct agriculture on their land for their whole lives.

It was not possible for them to run into magic beasts because the n.o.bles would help the farmers eliminate all threats near them.

The place where human agriculture took place would be where magic beasts would be exterminated. Of course, this did not include the smaller magic beasts who would steal some crops. Those creatures were even afraid of cats and dogs.

When Londee was fifty yards from the skeletal crocodile, he suddenly leaped into the air. His body stretched out completely while in mid-air, like a magic beast who was lunging at its target.

A stream of chilly airflow was sprayed out of the skeletal crocodile’s mouth, encompa.s.sing the human swordsman who was fifty yards away.

Saleen had already calculated the battle outcome. He was a mage, but when calculating of the outcome of a duel, he also used his understanding of swordsmen. Saleen could deduce the next move of any attack which unfolded before his eyes. Londee’s ability was that of an intermediate grade swordmaster, his offensive power was akin to that of a grade-4 mage. It was not too difficult for Londee to suppress a grade-4 death creature.

Even though it was a little risky for Londee to jump up, it was a bait which he could use to swiftly kill an opponent.

Through the calculations, Saleen suddenly realized that warriors of this grade no longer posed a threat to him at all anymore. A mage was most afraid of a warrior with the Sword Aura getting near them, however, Saleen had a plethora of methods to kill this Londee at close range.

Even if Londee was three yards away from Saleen, Saleen was confident of killing a swordmaster within two frames and knew he would not even get hurt.

Saleen was very clear that this only meant one thing, it was that his calculation ability had attained the standard of a sorcerer already. A large gap had appeared between Saleen and the warriors of this grade.

This discovery lifted Saleen’s spirits. At the same time, he also discovered a characteristic of the Elemental Eye. While using the Elemental Eye to observe the deductions the actions of Saleen’s target seemed to slow down. That allowed him to have more time to carry out calculations. In actual fact, this was an illusion. The real reason was that the Elemental Eye would increase a mage’s calculation speed.

A swordsman could calculate the direction of battle too, but it was unlike that of a mage. A swordsman would rely largely on experience, while some powerful swordsmen relied on instinct.

On the other hand, a mage’s calculations was purely rational and mathematical.

Londee swiftly leapt off the ground and in a flash he had gotten close to the skeletal crocodile. The frigid airflow used by the skeletal crocodile had enveloped an area where Londee would land in.

The offensive instincts of this death creature was extremely mighty. If that Premature Soulish Death had engulfed Londee, he would have been frozen into a popsicle.

On the third leap, the pellet in Londee’s hand was launched. The Sword Aura of a swordmaster could hardly be used in a range attack, but it could be attached onto a weapon. This required the weapon to be extremely st.u.r.dy, it would be best if this weapon had undergone magical quenching. After several times of uses a steel weapon would break down autonomously and be ruined otherwise.

A pellet which had been molded from soil at the last minute could not contain the Sword Aura at all. When this pellet was fired by Londee, its landing spot was coincidentally in the area where the skeletal crocodile’s frigid airflow had surrounded. The pellet had landed on the ground earlier than the airflow.

With a sonorous thud, the pellet was broken as the Sword Aura surged. At this moment the skeletal crocodile’s death spell then descended on the ground.

There was a two yard s.p.a.ce at the region where the pellet broke. This s.p.a.ce was surrounded by the dispersed Sword Aura and formed a safe region. Londee’s body landed accurately in this region, then he released his strength ferociously, leaping twenty yards high. Londee’s cutla.s.s descended from above, stabbing at the spot in between the eyes of the skeletal crocodile.

A thunderous sound of metal cracking filled the arena. The quality of the metal cutla.s.s was too poor, it could not withstand Londee’s Sword Aura, so it was shattered. This attack was executed very accurately and beautifully though. The Soul Flame of the skeletal crocodile clashed with the Sword Aura, it was dispersed in that instant.

The tail attack which the skeletal crocodile had prepared came to a halt and its colossal tail fell back to the ground heavily. All the spectators heard the trembling noise when the tail of the skeletal crocodile slammed against the ground.

“Twenty-five seconds! Twenty-five seconds! Londee from Phoenix only took twenty-five seconds to achieve victory!” The spectators listened to the description of the match narrated by the man who was concealed below the stage.
