Despite him complaining silently, Long Cheng knew that her being 'hard to get' challenged him and his dragon. It made things interesting and exciting. 

'For how long?'

Long Cheng did not have any idea. He could wait, but he hoped that at least she would show that somehow she cares or feels something towards him. 

He had just experienced one of the most dangerous events earlier, which was being chased down by a lot of beasts. But instead of being worried, he was being made fun of instead. 

"Long Cheng! What did you do this time? What caused the beasts to act like this?" Long Jun demanded, blameful. He could not think of any reasons that caused the beasts to wreak havoc. 

Who else could mess with Han Lu like that? 

With his cousin suddenly speaking, Long Cheng remembered how Lu Meili looked so comfortable in Long Jun's arms earlier as well! 

Jealousy burned in his eyes as he glared at Long Jun, who just crossed his arms over his chest, returning his stare with indifference. 

"Why are you blaming me now?!" Long Cheng asked, feeling so wrong. Yes, he killed the Thunderwolves that were thrown at Han Lu. And he had initially killed them only because Lu Meili wanted the pelts.

Since Han Lu had already tainted the first three, he decided to go back to the pack and get some more but ended up being chased down by other beasts as well. Now he was being blamed for the entire thing.

"Then what happened?" Long Jun questioned to no one in particular. 

"Commander, what about magic? The beasts were probably being controlled by magic." One of the male s.h.i.+fters said. 

"That is right! This woman probably caused this! She also killed Rusan! She is probably doing this to escape!" Lou Mary used this as an excuse to attack Lu Meili again. 

Long Cheng was appalled, "Shut up!" he shouted in rage. "Do you have proof?! As long as you can't show any evidence, you do not have the right to blame her!" he yelled, hoa.r.s.ely. His eyes s.h.i.+fted to his dragon that showed slits of yellow. 

The soldiers almost cowered in fear. Regardless of how happy go, lucky Long Cheng was, or how confused they were on why he would defend a criminal, they still could not deny the authority he was showing at the moment. 

"Am I making myself clear?!" Long Cheng asked again. The soldiers did not have a choice but to agree. Even Lou Mary could only grit her teeth as she tried to fight Long Cheng's authority. 

"Meili, come here." He demanded hoa.r.s.ely, his dragon still on the surface. 

Lu Meili lifted a brow before answering dismissively, "I am fine where I am now." She was still standing behind Long Jun, using him as a s.h.i.+eld. 

With frustration, Long Cheng growled warningly, which only made Lu Meili appalled. 

"Are you growling at me? Seriously?" She asked, with a hand partially covering her mouth, acting like she was surprised with mock hurt. 

Instead of answering, Long Cheng stepped forward with, hand raised to grab Lu Meili. 

"Don't come closer! I am perfectly fine where I am now!" Lu Meili said before pus.h.i.+ng Long Jun slightly to use him as a s.h.i.+eld against Long Cheng. 

"Cousin, get out of the way." He said hoa.r.s.ely, his nostrils flaring like a predator getting ready to hunt his prey. His eyes scanned the part of her that he was able to see. 

Lu Meili wanted to step back from him. He was doing it again. By looking at her the way Long Cheng was doing now, Lu Meili could feel the air s.h.i.+ft around her. This both scared and excited her. 

Long Jun released a tired sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose. Could he deny Long Cheng's request? No.

He did not want to be in the middle of the tension between a lover's quarrel. He decided just to let Long Cheng handle it.
