Chapter 107: Element Altar

So he managed to advance his profession?

He couldn’t believe that he successfully advanced the profession of Shadow dancer.

Taking a look at others, Soran said smilingly “I made it. I think I have made some breakthroughs in understanding my skills.”

Halfling stared at Soran as if he was looking at a monster.

Gloria also felt it strange that just within several minutes Soran had progressed dramatically in his fighting skills, which did astonished Gloria, a knowledgeable witch. Only Vivian seemed to care about nothing who clapped her hands and said with her eyes blinking “Brother, you are amazing. It was like making fun of monsters.”

These were two specialties that could improve evasion abilities.

Although they couldn’t be compared with his previous Legendary Evasion, Legendary Reflex Evasion and Legendary Danger Sense, Soran found back his ease and confidence in battles. Even in dangerous battles, he could still be confident as if he was dancing on the knife tips. Specialties were improved bit by bit. As long as one could understand the most basic specialty and command its properties, then it was just a matter of time to improve it. With more battles, basic specialty would be advanced to high-grade specialty.

As a comprehensive ability, ordinary evasion was an extension of dexterity professions including rogue.

Reflex Evasion was adjusted by dexterity values. Higher dexterity meant quicker reflex and stronger evasion abilities in emergencies. The most difficult and effective one was Danger Sense, which required strong sensation and prejudgments of any dangerous attacks. Martial monks were the experts of Danger Sense. If ordinary evasion was the improvement of basic skills, Reflex Evasion was an instinct reaction in emergencies. Danger Sense was intuitive perception of the coming dangers before enemies’ attacks or their preparation of attacks.

Danger Sense’s training was the most difficult one. Apart from martial monks and other advanced professions, other professionals had to take a very long time to train it and it required higher standards of perception and one had to transfer his properties to rare sensation.

Martial monks had many evasion skills which could be extended to Resisting Arrows.

Halfling looked at Soran surprisingly and said “Another one?”

Soran slightly shook his head and said slowly “No. I reached my limits. I need to acc.u.mulate more fighting experience. Although I felt like I was improving my understanding, I only found how to make breakthroughs just now.”

Understanding two specialties was an absolute performance of acc.u.mulated efforts.

Soran wouldn’t expect he could have another dramatic improvement because there were strict requirements of evasion techniques. His then-improvement was an expression of breaking the point of transition by acceleration spell. Intuitive reactions were gradually formed, which could be improved by repeated battles and finally be formed subconsciously.

“Let’s speed up.”

Looking at Soran, Gloria said in a low voice “Only ten more minutes left.”

Soran nodded his head, picked up his machete and went into the valley before Halfling looked at him enviously and followed him with his hand holding cutlas. Improvised breakthroughs required strong talent. One hundred rouges may not have one who could make improvised breakthroughs because they needed a rather long time to acc.u.mulate power. A large altar could be seen in the valley, with huge stone pillars of up to ten meters on all sides. The central area was divided by nine staircases and a compa.s.s was set in the most central part.

External earth elements were not too hard to handle, but internal ones were obviously different. They were larger in size, had more rock structures and looked more human.

“Be careful.” said Soran in a low voice, with his hand firmly holding the machete, “these earth elements might be advanced elites who might understand Earth Throwing. Once you see they hold stones, stay away immediately.”

Earth Throwing was a spell-like ability, which could be used by earth element to throw stones and could cause about 100 points of losses.

It would be fatal if one was. .h.i.t by the stone.

Most element beings did not have much wisdom, even worse than Undead. Intelligent elements beings were of legendary levels, such as Wind Giant Spirit, Water Giant Spirit, Earth Giant Spirit and so on. These element beings belonged to deity creatures, most of whom were demiG.o.ds and could occasionally summon powerful element main G.o.d. A relatively famous summoning spell was the legendary Wis.h.i.+ng. Element giant spirit would fulfill some of your wishes according to the principle of equivalence exchange, even including resurrecting the dead!

These were the most ancient beings. Most of them slept in the element layer while most element beings in the substance layer were of low intelligence who lived on their instinct in some regions and would sometimes respond to spell casters’ summoning to serve them. The earth elements in front of them were like this. They lived here for a long time and seldom left the valley.

Soran gestured to Halfling and they worked together to attract earth element’s attention again. Halfling was responsible for containing enemies while Soran was in charge of seizing opportunities to attack it. Looking at the altar far away, Gloria frowned her pretty eyebrow and seemed a little bit nervous. She looked up at the sky and saw a falcon flying over, but she could not be sure that it was a wild falcon due to the vague sight in the valley. Like most witches, Gloria was also vigilant, so she set another defense spell before she moved forward.

Pure spell casters would by no means used up their spells. Instead, they would leave several spells to handle emergencies.

Things began to change when they were attacking the ninth earth element.

Waving its hand, the larger earth element suddenly held a huge rock up to around half a ton. Throwing the stone directly at the little rat, earth element caused a huge wind blowing the stone as if there was a black shadow falling from the sky. Suddenly, a huge deep hole appeared on the ground.

“Aladdin?” roared Soran and slowed down his attack.

Behind the rock, a frightening voice was heard and Halfling walked out and pat on his chest “It’s so frightening. I nearly turned into patties.”

With rogue’s dexterity, it was easy for them to evade ahead of time, but it might be difficult for soldiers.

Although earth element could only use Earth Throwing once or twice in a day, Soran did not dare to be reckless. He added shadow killing to attack earth element, causing another 6 points of shadow losses which could directly attack the central elements of earth element. As long as he managed to cast the spell, it could erode its element energies. Halfling seemed to be angry. He also used shadowing killing when attacking earth element.

This was the most common attacking spell of rouges below legendary level.

Soon advanced earth element fell down. Soran took out its central element and immediately rushed to the altar. Earth elements nearby were almost killed.

The acceleration spell would soon be ineffective.

Although there were still some remaining earth elements wandering, they had a warning line and they would not notice anyone if you did not cross that line.

“Where’s the treasure?” said Halfling excitedly, approaching the altar, “There’s nothing.”

Soran looked around vigilantly and said “There might be a hidden compartment on the top.”

“Don’t hurry. Let me see if there are traps nearby.”

After saying this, he walked around the altar. There were still some earth elements, but without acceleration spell, it would be tough. Although Soran wanted slaughter EXP, it was better not to kill them all. Portals were quite unique as there might come some beings between element layers. Killing them all might arouse the attention of something like the soul of the land. They had painful experience previously when they killed all and they aroused the attention of the most powerful one.

He gestured backwards and Gloria immediately casted a spell, with Vivian nervously stood by her side.

Walking by a stone pillar, Soran pressed on it before huge noises were heard in the altar and a hidden compartment appeared. Energies were required to sustain portals and most offerings for element beings were gemstones that wouldn’t be exposed outside and would usually be hidden at somewhere in the altar. He made a gesture to Halfling and he excitedly came. Then he carefully took several gemstones and quickly put them in the pocket.

Soran slowly walked along the altar. He suddenly stoped, took a dark yellow stone from the left corner of the altar and put it in the pocket immediately. It seemed like an ordinary stone without any spiritual light. If the stone was not observed closely, it might be regarded as a normal stone of the similar size of cobblestone with smooth surface. When it was held in hand, it was a little heavy and weighed almost three pounds.

They got what they needed.

Soran glanced at Halfling and said “Leave quickly with the stones. The portal is ineffective. Beings at element layer might get noticed.”

Huge noises could be heard in the altar.

It seemed the ground fell down a little bit. Halfling quickly put things into pockets. Fortunately, they didn’t have too many Gold Derahls inside but various gemstones.

Advanced elements sometimes might eat them just like eating bean.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

A dull bang was heard under the altar. Soran did not have time to take the remaining gemstones. He took Halfling and quickly ran out. There might be an element soul sleeping below. He hoped that it was not something like the soul of the ground.

“Oh! My gemstones!”

With Halfling’s sorrow voices echoing, Gloria quickly casted the spell and four of them flew up.

——“Group flying spell.”

The altar trembled increasingly strongly, and the center had even begun to collapse. When Sauron and others flew to an alt.i.tude of about 300 meters, a huge rock arm suddenly came out from the ground, followed by an approximately ten-meter rock giant climbing out. Making a dull sound, it seemed to be roaring, but there was no trace of anyone nearby. The huge figure turned around in the valley and then re-entered the altar where there had turned into a gravel-like ruin.

“It was so risky!" Halfling wiped his cold sweat and looked at the huge element monster, murmuring "We cannot handle such a giant."

Soran's expression was relatively calm, but he couldn't help saying in his heart "I know there must be something hidden. How could a legendary level task be published casually? It turns out that there are guardians below."

They gained a lot of experience in adventures.

In fact, Soran did not believe that in a legendary level task, there were only some earth elements guardians, so he arranged Gloria to walk behind who could take them leave with flying spells at critical moments. The monster just now might be a rock giant, an advanced branch of earth elements whose strength was only lower than element seniors. Its biological level was roughly from 18 to 20.

This was not what they could deal with.

Looking at the valley far away, Soran thought what level of beings could kill it safely. The slaughter EXP of it must be extremely high!
