Chapter 98: The First Snow

The name sounded awkward.

But in fact, this thing only set off for once so far. Though it instantly killed an adult black dragon, it ceased fire ever since then. Due to the loss of the magic-powered device of the Mystery Empire period, this Magical Crystal Pulsating Cannon was now a mere decoration. In order to let it set off one more shoot in the future, the Autumn Leaves Convention even opened the portal to the seabed and released a task of quasi-legendary level. One shoot of it would consume half-month’s energy of a Floating City. To charge it with a sorcerer’s magic power would only produce some electric sparks.

Don’t think it looked like a lightning rod; it, in fact, was a lightning rod now. [Shame]

This kind of magic-powered weapon was destructive, but it wasn’t very efficient in use. It could neither attack across dimensions nor penetrate through distorted s.p.a.ce. The main use in record was at abyss battlefields. The Mystery Empire had utilized it to crash the s.h.i.+t out of demon armies. By one single shoot, an entire demon army was almost eliminated. Only advanced-level cross-dimensional demons were able to escape and the other primary-level ones were evaporated directly. Currently, the Magical Crystal Pulsating Cannon in normal operation existed only in the Mechanical Mirror of Watch Nirvana.

That was a world of life-a.s.sembly.

It was also the only remaining complete dimension from the Mystery Empire. There existed a tremendous number of a.s.sembled mechanical lives propping up the normal operation of the whole dimension and, at the same time, fighting against a species of fierce and powerful underground ants. The glory of the Mystery Empire was fading out, so if one wanted to experience the horrible power that stood shoulder-to-shoulder with G.o.ds, he/she must have a visit to that dimension.

The challenge level of that place was 25, which was equal to that of half-G.o.d and divine creature level!

Any flesh-and-blood life would be affected by the high energy-intensive radiation. On the surface of the Mechanical Mirror of Watch Nirvana, there wasn’t any wild plant. All was huge gear machinery and a.s.sembled lives, which had been guarding this place for countless years. In the eyes of Druid, this place was more h.e.l.lish than a h.e.l.l, because the natural environment in their belief had been totally distorted. You won’t see any trace of green in the whole world, except for a boundless of steel and a grey sky like the world was coming to an end.

Soran had been there.

Lucky for him to have made a narrow escape from the place.

……

“You know it?”

Gloria glanced at Soran next to her, who retreated her eyesight from the Magical Crystal Pulsating Cannon, sighing, “The weapon, a legacy of the Mystery Empire period has power close to that of divine weapons. Shame there are too many restrictions in using it.”

Soran gently nodded and replied, “I heard of that. There is a story about it in the stories chanted by Bard. It killed an adult black dragon.”

The Race of Dragon.

As the most powerful race next to G.o.ds in this world, they weren’t beasts that could only spit fire. The dragon race in the world was capable of magic power besides flesh fighting. They could reach the level just two or three grades lower than a professional wizard. An average adult dragon could release eight-ring spells while a more powerful one nine-ring spells.

They had as many spells as wizards!

However, the way they carried out spells was the same as wizards—turret style. Different species of dragon mastered different kinds of spells. Even a complete group of legendary adventurers was fifty percent sure to finish the challenge level formed by adult dragons. A dragon-wizard was a typical heaven-aided profession among all magicians, yet these people only inherit a third of the power of the dragon race.

Maybe affected by the story.

There had been someone who went to slay dragon with rejoicing. However, the warrior was trapped by the first labyrinth, and then the whole group failed by an advanced-level Roar Technique. An hour later when the warrior got out of the labyrinth, he found that all members, except the sorcerer who escaped through triggering a portal, died.

The dragon race that carried out spells in fixed positions was of course easy to deal with. For example, the attacking strategy of many white dragons followed certain procedures.

But when confronted by those cunning adult dragons, you would immediately discover that they were no less than cheating! The tactical arrangement would dwarf even a veteran adventurer. According to professional statistics, if the template spells were used by top-level adventurers, they could destroy at least three legendary-level adventuring groups.

Deformation; sneak attack; a.s.sa.s.sination; labyrinth; trapping; exiling; monster siege; etc.

Then the set of spells would precede dragon breath of fire, dragon wing-slapping, dragon bite-tearing and so on. Overcoming all these consecutive attacks, then you would have to face head-on an adult dragon, equivalent to a legendary-level flesh-fighting warrior.

When Soran had engaged in a group fighting of dragon-slay, he conducted at least twenty times of tactical deduction beforehand!

Six quasi-legendary adventurers had teamed up for the tactical deduction of the dragon’s attacking style for a whole day and night before they finally set off to slay dragons. Without tactical deduction, without a full knowledge of battlefield, the terrains inside the dragon nest and the distribution route of monsters, the only result in dealing with sudden emergency would be a complete elimination of the whole team!

Once there had been a demiG.o.d lich whose battle tactic was to throw out Ban Technique, which was regarded as its weak point.

When a team of legendary adventurers rushed over to kill the half-G.o.d lich, however, all of them were dumbfounded instantly. It turned out that the demiG.o.d was throwing Ban Technique out of boringness as well as replenis.h.i.+ng spell tools (which could ban souls). Once in real danger, it carried out a legendary spell Time Out, and the whole group found themselves in despair.

Demon summon, projection, anatomy, s.p.a.ce locking, Bigby’s gold palm, decree, speech of daunting and blasphemy.

The set of spells crashed down the whole team. Even the sorcerer failed to escape.

Ever since then, everyone learnt a lesson that to output in a fixed position would only lead to a dead end. The enemies wouldn’t be puppets that could only dumbly play cards following a rigid procedure.

If you weren’t blessed by the G.o.d of luck, then you’d better make more preparation.

……

The group planned to stay in the city of Autumn Fell for one day.

Obviously, the Northern Witch had no idea that the Magical Crystal Pulsating Cannon had become a decoration and took a reverent glance at it over there.

Soran hadn’t slept for many days in a row and was now slightly tired too.

He first preserved two rooms to help Vivian settle down before cleaning himself and going to bed. It was safer in the city. If Vivian was really a daughter of G.o.d, then very likely she was the daughter of Dread G.o.d. There was something that he didn’t mention with Gloria, but the land next to that of elves was the forbidden area belonged to the Dread Lord whose disciples and followers would find it hard to invade into the land of elves. Therefore, for the time being, they were pretty safe. And there was still enough time.

Soran also came for another important destination, that was a special zone near the elf’s kingdom.

There was a legendary-level equipment there.

It was also a portal point connecting earth element dimension. It’s a place where one earth element could bring a proximate of three thousand points of killing experience. If lucky enough, he could acc.u.mulate more than thirty thousand killing experience.

But he can’t make it on his own.

There were four such special zones, distributed in the land of snow, the elf forest, the lava land and the forbidden land of cloud sea respectively.

This was a legendary-level mission.

The four places represented the four elemental powers, water, fire, earth and air respectively. Each had a legendary-level equipment, and the four combined would be a special device.

It could conjure up the elders of the four elements, all of whom were 24-level creatures. The final award could only be obtained after defeating them.

A piece of sealed G.o.dhead [unknown].

What brought about to the mortal world by G.o.ds arrival wasn’t not only destruction, but also endless opportunities.

Soran had many things in his mind, but only a few of them were attainable. This one was of the least difficulty and the easiest to get. The challenge level of earth element was 9, twice harder than the abyss of Snake Demon at the very beginning. The attack of earth element was slow, exactly a type easy for Soran to deal with. Therefore, it wouldn’t be difficult to erase them with a.s.sisting hands. But if confronted with wind element, he would be done because he would even have no opportunity to start a move.

It was just dawn.

There were loud knocks at the door of Soren’s room. He almost sprang up to instantly grab his curved blade, rus.h.i.+ng out and asking in a low voice, “What’s going on?”

Outside was Gloria with a gloomy face. She pointed to the outside, answering seriously, “Look!”

A world of snowy white.

Without being noticed, the whole world was covered by heavy snow overnight. It approximated fifteen centimeters in thickness, making it hard to believe that the snow fell over one night.

“How is it possible?” Soran’s expression was also sullen, muttering, “Now it’s just late September. It should start to snow?”

Gloria pointed her finger at the sky, lowering her voice, “Does it have anything to do with up there?”

G.o.ds?

Soren wasn’t sure either. He replied, “It’s possible.”

His regular active area wasn’t here, so he wasn’t clear whether it would snow in advance. But he estimated that people wouldn’t care about the snow since too many things had happened back then. Yet, snowing in September was no lucky sign. For many times, Soran didn’t discover the signs until they actually happened. If this snow really preceded something, then it must have something to do with the G.o.d in charge of ice and snow.

Was it winter girl or snow G.o.ddess?

They hadn’t been affected by the chaos of the turbulent year, right? The event of snow country seemed to have broken out many years later.

Did this mean something was at incubation?

There were already people outside sweeping the snow. Now and then, they cursed the bad weather, especially the traveling business groups who were blocked here. They had no way to leave here. Very likely they had to wait until next spring, which meant all the money they had earned would be spent here. Meanwhile, some people worried because of the upcoming freezing winter following the early snow. The wild monsters, if without enough food stock in advance, were very likely to attack other creatures at a high frequency.

The sudden snow would cause death of a great number of animals.

They probably couldn’t survive this winter. And these seemingly trifles added up would bring about dramatic change.

Mother Nature was always cursed with chain reactions!
