Volume 1 Chapter 23

It wouldn't take Ling Xiao and company long to reach the Sunken Wind Valley. This was not only due to its proximity to the Northern Jade Sect, but also thanks to the benefits acquired from cultivating the Strength Soul. If they rushed, three days would suffice. However, Master insisted to bring along his wife Cheng Shi who was a delicate woman. She was just a mortal and it couldn't be expected of her to keep up with the speed of Chain Soul Masters. As such, Cheng Qiantai was forced to arrange a chariot for her, slowing the procession down to a crawl.

Naturally, there were other solutions, too. Take Tang Yingying for example, who rode on horseback side to side with Cheng Yu, easily keeping up with the rest. But Cheng Shi had a delicate frame and soft skin, it couldn't be expected of her to travel in such a crude way.

Opinions were formed, conclusions reached. But none of this mattered. No one dared to speak ill of Mistress nor did they dare to show their discontent. After all, Master was glaring at his surroundings like a majestic tiger watching its prey.

"Sect Master Cheng, what a coincidence!" Another procession quickly caught up to them. Ling Xiao recognised the voice in an instant. It was Qian Gui's, the Sect Master of the Everlasting Pool Sect. He was a man who had perfected the art of wearing a kind demeanor, while harbouring nothing but evil in his heart.

During the betrayal of Xiao Zhang, Qian Gui was the first to admit defeat. Cheng Qiantai wasn't especially fond of him, but didn't reject the gesture of goodwill. "Greetings, Sect Master Qian."

Qian Gui spared Tang Yingying a glance from the corner of his eye, his expression faltering a little. Ling Xiao coldly snorted. That righteous Sect Master probably didn't expect I'd walk around with her in the open. This should help convince him she is just a human, albeit a little prettier than the rest.

Another horse quickly rushed up from the procession behind them. Ling Xiao took a look to see who it was and noticed that the person was a pretty boythe type he loathed to his very core. He was a prim and proper man with soft skin and tender flesh. He even had a faintly sweet scent on him. Disgusting, he's really disgusting! Ling Xiao thought.

The pretty boy respectfully clasped his fist and greeted Cheng Qiantai. "Nephew Qian Hai pays his respects to Uncle Cheng."

Have you got nothing better to do than greet Master as family? Do you want to use Master for something, need to be on his good side? Uncle Cheng? Let me show you who your Uncle is! Ling Xiao cursed the pretty boy in his heart. Shameless brat! Even I have my limits, but you!

However, Cheng Yu and Ling Xiao clearly had different esthetic standards. Where Ling Xiao detested the youngster, Cheng Yu glanced at him with interest. She sized Qian Hai up while a hint of a smile played on her lips. She clearly enjoyed what she saw.

He's so clean and pays attention to his appearance. There really aren't many guys like him in this day and age, Cheng Yu thought to herself as she subconsciously looked at Li Yuanhuan and Ling Xiao. One was the embodiment of a man, exuding manly pheromones. The other was an eyesore, someone who deserved a good punching. She shook her head and breathed out deeply. As expected, the guys of the Northern Jade Sect are only, that. If only they could be a little more like the men from other sects

Cheng Qiantai didn't have much of an impression on this child. He indifferently said, "Respectable Nephew Qian doesn't need to act so courteous."

After paying his respects to Cheng Qiantai, Qian Hai glanced around and spotted Cheng Yu. He left his father with Cheng Qiantai, taking the opportunity to go up to Cheng Yu and Tang Yingying.

When Qian Hai's eyes fell on Tang Yingying, his heart shuddered involuntarily. This young lady is absolutely stunning! If she's just a little older, she'll definitely charm every man in the world!

Tang Yingying felt a shiver of discomfort shoot down her spine as Qian Hai appreciated her beauty unbridled. She quickly urged her horse to ride up to Ling Xiao's side.

Cheng Yu wasn't blind. She naturally noticed the raw lust in Qian Hai's eyes, causing her mood to turn for the worse. Every man is the same! They're all lascivious monsters!

Seeing Tang Yingying hide from him, Qian Hai chuckled and said, "The little girl is very beautiful, but she lacks the elegance of Maiden Cheng."

When the group heard these compliments spew from Qian Hai's lips, they felt goosebumps on their bodies. The only exception was Cheng Yu. She didn't feel nauseated by this man's words. Instead, she viewed him in a different light than all the other guys because he dared to speak his mind.

Ling Xiao saw the twinkle in Cheng Yu's eyes and knew Li Yuanhuan would suffer a loss. Cheng Yu never threw any meaningful glances in Li Yuanhuan's direction, yet her eyes sparkled when this pretty boy came by. Could it mean anything else?

Did a horse kick her in the head? Ling Xiao looked at Li Yuanhuan, but saw that his expression didn't falter. Anger and despise appeared in Ling Xiao's eyes as he looked down on Cheng Yu. You stupid woman. You have a powerful and gentle man who wants to give you the world. But you just had to fancy a pretty boy. Pathetic!

Cheng Qiantai glanced at Qian Gui who was all smiles. He looked composed despite his son's rash behaviour. It was all the evidence Cheng Qiantai needed to conclude Qian Hai behaved under his father's directions.

You want to seduce my daughter to nibble away at my Northern Jade Sect and get that secret? Never! Cheng Qiantai was certain of this fact which made him hate Qian Hai even more. "Respectable Nephew Qian, are you sure it's wise leaving your group without a leader? What would happen if demons were to ambush and they were left to fend for themselves?"

Cheng Qiantai gave an extremely lame excuse. Anyone could tell he was chasing away the unwanted guests. But Qian Hai had an unusually thick skin. He smiled and said, "What demon would be so daring as to antagonize all of us? I believe in Uncle Cheng's strength. Of all the demons who can break through the Celestial Soul Master's barrier, not a single one of them is your opponent."

Qian Gui sternly looked at his son as he said, "Your Uncle Cheng is right. Why are you chit-chatting over there? We must always be on guard against the demons. Why aren't you hurrying back yet, boy?!"

Qian Hai turned his horse around and left like a well-behaved child. "Yes, father."

Once Qian Hai left, Qian Gui assumed his trained face of kindness. "Children really don't know any better. I hope Sect Master Cheng can overlook my son's ignorance, and that we'll look out for one another along the way as we head to the Sunken Wind Valley. I should return to my group, too."

Cheng Qiantai tepidly said, "Safe journey, Sect Master Qian."

Tang Yingying was hiding beside Ling Xiao as she carefully spoke up, "Big Brother Xiao, that man is just like the other people in that big house. He has a bad look in his eyes."

Cheng Yu was puzzled. "What people? What big house?"

"The men in the Floating Red Courtyard," Ling Xiao sneered.

"Humph!" Cheng Yu rolled her eyes. She ignored Ling Xiao and Tang Yingying, focusing her thoughts on her sword technique. However, that clean young man slowly wormed his way back into her mind along with his smile that was utterly shameless, hypocritical, and disgusting in Ling Xiao's eyes.

The Demonic Seven Souls Chain on Ling Xiao's body suddenly vibrated, making the hairs on his body stand on their ends. For the soul stones on the Demonic Seven Souls Necklace to have such a huge reaction, what strong demonic soulforce it must be!

Even if the demonic soulforce was somewhat concealed, one shouldn't think of hiding it from Ling Xiao with his Demonic Seven Souls Chain.

"Master, there's danger up ahead," Ling Xiao suddenly spoke up, giving everyone a fright as he'd caught them off guard.

Cheng Qiantai knew Ling Xiao definitely wouldn't joke about something like this and immediately ordered the group to stop. He turned to Ling Xiao and asked, "Xiao'er, what's the matter?"

Ling Xiao purposely made it look as though he was expending all of his mental strength, turning himself pale in the face. "Master, there's a strange fluctuation of spiritual power within the valley up ahead. The people there can't be up to anything good!"

Cheng Qiantai gravely observed the terrain up ahead. It was a circular valley that was strategically placed. Once someone entered, it was easy to block off all routes of escape. They would most surely be surrounded and annihilated in the ambush.

Once he finished scanning the terrain, Cheng Qiantai firmly believed Ling Xiao's deduction. "Since those demons are there, we should meet them head on. Yuanhuan, Xiao'er, everyone prepare for battle!"

"Wait, Master!" The tip of Ling Xiao's eyebrows twiched and an unspeakably astute look shone in his eyes. "We said we'd look out for one another, so we can't forget our friends behind us!"

"Despicable!" Cheng Yu coldly cursed Ling Xiao.

Cheng Qiantai fiercely glared at Cheng Yu who turned her head away. She pursed her lips with a disdainful look on her face.

Cheng Qiantai couldn't be bothered with his daughter who bit the hand that fed her. He turned to speak to Ling Xiao. "Xiao'er, inform those behind us of what's going on."

"Yes, Master." Ling Xiao was very happy to accept this errand. He immediately turned his horse around and rushed straight to the Everlasting Pool Sect group behind them.

When Qian Hai saw Ling Xiao's horse rushing over, he quietly asked his father in a hateful tone, "Father, is he that lucky bastard who knows how to concoct medicine?"

Qian Gui nodded. "Yes, let's see what this brat wants."

Ling Xiao urged his horse to a stop about 10 meters in front of the pair and shouted out, "Sect Master Qian, my Master detected the presence of demons in the valley up ahead. He hopes our sects can join hands and exterminate them together."

"What? There are demons up ahead? Why don't I sense anything?" Qian Gui was very confident in his soulforce. He believed no demon could escape his eyes even if they hid 3,000 meters away from him. Such a distance was nothing to him!

"Why are you guys spouting nonsense? My father said there aren't any demons. Don't tell me your Sect Master Cheng is more powerful than my father?" Qian Hai sneered.

He really is a two-faced bastard. No, that's too kind. They're both sides of his butt, a two-butted bastard, a buttard!

The son was clueless whereas the father was egotistical. Their attitudes were just what Ling Xiao had hoped for them to be. "Since that's the case, may you advance. We're going to rest right where we are. If you encounter demons, make sure you don't call for help."

"The one who calls for help is a son of a bitch!" Qian Hai loudly proclaimed.

"Alright! I'll be taking my leave!" Ling Xiao turned his horse around and left, giggling as he returned to his group. When he caught back up with Cheng Qiantai, he said, "Master, they don't believe us. Disciple was powerless and could only let them proceed ahead of us." Ling Xiao threw a glance at Cheng Yu and continued, "Young Master Qian was adamant that only sons of bitches would call for help."

Cheng Qiantai helplessly sighed and said, "Fine. We'll let them go on ahead. However, we can't just sit by and ignore them if they run into danger. Understood?"

The disciples replied in unison, "As you wish, Master."

Only Ling Xiao kept quiet. Oh you poor fellow. Just because you're old doesn't mean you're wise, Sect Master Qian. Your downfall came when you ignored my warning! You brought it upon yourself. Humph!
