Hymn 16. C. M.

"_Hark! The glad sound, the Saviour comes._"

Hark! the glad sound, the Saviour comes, The Saviour promised long; Let every heart prepare a throne, And every voice a song.

2 Our glad Hosannas, Prince of Peace, Thy welcome shall proclaim; And heaven's eternal arches ring With thy beloved name.

3 He comes the prisoners to release, In Satan's bondage held; The gates of bra.s.s before him burst, The iron fetters yield.

4 He comes from thickest films of vice To clear the mental ray, And on the eye b.a.l.l.s of the blind To pour celestial day.

5 He comes the broken heart to bind, The bleeding soul to cure; And with the treasures of his grace To enrich the humble poor.

6 Our glad Hosannas, Prince of Peace, Thy welcome shall proclaim; And heaven's eternal arches ring With thy beloved name.

Hymn 17. C. M.

"_Am I a soldier of the cross._"

Am I a soldier of the cross, A follower of the Lamb?

And shall I fear to own his cause, Or blush to speak his name?

2 Must I be carried to the skies On flowery beds of ease; While others fought to win the prize, And sail'd through b.l.o.o.d.y seas?

3 Are there no foes for me to face?

Must I not stem the flood?

Is this vile world a friend to grace, To help me on to G.o.d?

4 Sure, I must fight, if I would reign; Increase my courage, Lord; I'll bear the toil, endure the pain, Supported by thy word.

5 Thy saints in all this glorious war Shall conquer, though they die; They see the triumph from afar, By faith they bring it nigh.

6 When that ill.u.s.trious day shall rise, And all thine armies shine In robes of victory through the skies, The glory shall be thine.
