Chapter 759 - The Hills

Chapter 759: The Hills

*Pop!*

A figure descended from the sky, entering the Ancient Battlefield of Gods and Demons.

Two feet planted themselves on the black soil like iron bars, stomping out two deep pits. Xia Fei raised his head and looked around, taking in the sight of the scorched and hot earth.

Though he was late, he was finally here. One week after the battlefield had opened, Xia Fei was finally here.

“This is the Ancient Battlefield of Gods and Demons? Why does it seem more like a planet?” Xia Fei muttered.

Oro was startled, then he chuckled. “You can tell from just this? Yes, the Ancient Battlefield of Gods and Demons is actually a whole planet. With a circumference of four million kilometers, it has mountains, rivers, canyons, wastelands, swamps, and even artificial buildings.

“In the ancient era, the great powers from the two races used this giant planet as foundation and established the battlefield on it. The perimeter of the planet is covered by a thick alloy shell and law isolation barriers, and the compass is the only means of going in and out. Countless experts are buried here!”

Xia Fei was taken aback. The Earth had a circumference of about forty thousand kilometers, but this planet was a hundred times that! It was enormous! How had those super-experts managed to turn a planet into a battlefield and how much law power would such a feat require?

Nonetheless, Xia Fei was not too shocked by this. He had already seen too many absurd things in the Law Realm, and a massive and contained battleground was not anything too outrageous. Those holders of overwhelming power were definitely capable of such things.

With a crafty smile on his lips, Xia Fei softly asked, “It’s been one week. I wonder if those warriors who got here first were able to find any treasure?”

Oro’s face turned helpless. Xia Fei had already planned everything out. The only thing he would be doing on this battlefield was steal, steal, and steal some more!

Rather than earnestly searching, stealing from others would undoubtedly be more efficient and suited Xia Fei’s taste more.

Shrugging, Oro said, “Alright, the highest rank on the Ancient Battlefield can’t be more than level 9 Law Emperor. At your level of strength, you should be able to dominate. Still, for the sake of caution, you should avoid large groups. As the old saying goes, two fists can’t beat four hands.”

*Whoosh~*

Xia Fei quickly got moving. With his speed that reached one hundred and twenty thousand meters per second, he cut a straight line sprinting across the Ancient Battlefield.

The Ancient Battlefield was very large, and not more than than twenty thousand warriors had entered it. After seven days of slaughter, only ten thousand or so people had survived. Finding these survivors would not be easy, even for a speedster like Xia Fei.

*Rumble!*

A warrior was wrapped up by Peacock Blue, carried into the sky, and slammed onto the ground, the impact shattering his bones and causing bloody froth to emerge from his mouth!

*Pa!*

Xia Fei stomped a foot on the warrior’s shattered ribs, causing the warrior to grit his teeth in pain.

“Skywing! You’re from the Skywing Clan!” the warrior said through clenched teeth, his eyes full of fear. Xia Fei’s attack and the warrior’s defeat had happened in the time it took to blink. The latter did not even have a chance to counterattack. Aside from the legendary Demon-sealing Fiendish Blade, this warrior could think of no one else with such unfathomable speed!

Xia Fei smiled. “You’re quite knowledgeable, so let me ask you some things. Has anything noteworthy happened on the battlefield in the last few days, like any divine weapons appearing?”

As he had arrived late, Xia Fei did not understand the current situation on the battlefield, so he needed to question someone.

“Will you let me go if I talk?”

“No, but if you don’t talk, your death will be a lot more painful…” Xia Fei waved the Blood Crystal around as he sinisterly said.

The warrior could not hold against Xia Fei’s torture and divulged everything he knew, whether it was Sezsny’s advancement or that he was leading a large group of Demon Race warriors eastward.

“It seems like no true divine weapon has appeared on the Ancient Battlefield. The only noteworthy thing is that a Law Overlord has shown up among the Demon Race,” Xia Fei said as he put away the Blood Crystal.

The Blood Crystal had drained the essence blood of this warrior, sending pure energy into Xia Fei’s seventh brain region, an incredibly comfortable feeling. This was already the twenty-ninth person Xia Fei had killed, and the vast majority had mentioned Sezsny and the east.

Without much thought, Xia Fei followed Sezsny to the east.

Gradually, the terrain became more uneven, with more and more hills appearing. These hills were not very tall, only reaching a height of three or four hundred meters, but they had steep slopes and were all connected in a way that stretched endlessly into the horizon.

This hilly region was very windy, gales blowing between the mountains creating mournful and bone-chilling howls. Even stranger was that the wind seemed to be carrying the sound of a rumbling train with it. This sound would shift between near and far in a rhythmic cadence.

Xia Fei looked down from a small mountain, only to spot a group made entirely of Demon Race warriors taking a short break. All of them were exhausted from the nonstop march. Although Sezsny had not wanted to slow down, not letting his men rest would probably provoke them into rebellion, which he could not afford.

“What is this sound? Does the Ancient Battlefield also have trains?” Xia Fei curiously asked.

Oro shook his head and asked, “A train? What’s that?”

Xia Fei was speechless. It was clear that the Law Realm did not have anything like trains, and even the Earth had stopped using such ancient modes of transportation. Thus, that description of his was clearly no good.

“I’m talking about that rhythmic rumbling sound in the wind.” Xia Fei tried again.

“Oh, you’re talking about that.” Oro nodded. “This region has always had this weird noise, for years and years. Countless warriors have tried searching for the source, but they’ve found nothing even now. Later, people got used to it and stopped wondering.”

“It’s a very strange sound,” Xia Fei said sternly.

Oro casually said, “The Ancient Battlefield has far too many weird things, so what’s another one? I’m guessing that the sound is produced by the wind blowing through the complicated canyons, no big deal at all.”

Xia Fei shrugged, expressing no opinion regarding Oro’s conjecture.

The group had set up camp in the hills, and it was heavily guarded. In normal times, this would not be a big deal, but this was the Ancient Battlefield. It was very abnormal for Sezsny to go to so much trouble organizing the group and even bringing everyone here. Xia Fei suspected that Sezsny was hiding something.

His eyes turning, Xia Fei came up with an idea.

Be it the God Race or the Demon Race, there was actually not much difference between the two. They were both organizations of sapient lifeforms that could use law power. The only difference was the styles of their combat armor and the aura around their body.

Xia Fei suddenly recalled that he still had a suit of Demon Race armor, the Enigmatic Autumn Sun, in his spatial ring. He had gotten it from that Lionheart Race Great Law Emperor Quinn. He had been planning to give this armor to Chen Dong, but Chen Dong was seemingly busy with something and could not be contacted.

Putting on Enigmatic Autumn Sun and using Breath Control to conceal his aura, Xia Fei cautiously approached the camp.

The more than one thousand Demon Race warriors came from all over, and as they had temporarily rallied under one tent, the vast majority did not know one another. This was an excellent chance for Xia Fei, as no one would care about an extra person in the group.

Breath Control provided him with excellent protection and Enigmatic Autumn Sun covered Xia Fei entirely, only showing his eyes. Xia Fei was able to smoothly infiltrate Sezsny’s group and gather useful information.

These warriors were either lying down out in the open or leaning against the mountain walls. Some had even fallen asleep on the ground, not caring about getting dirty. It was clear that everyone was tired. What stood out the most was the single tent set up in the middle of the camp.

Xia Fei grew even more curious. These warriors would not have rushed here, heedless of their fatigue, without some clear goal in mind; he could not help but wonder what this goal was.

The sole tent in the center of the camp piqued Xia Fei curiosity greatly. Alas, there was nothing else around the tent, and everyone was intentionally avoiding it. Xia Fei would stand out like a sore thumb if he walked right over.

He found a corner near a cliff to sit and pretended to be resting like the others. Meanwhile, he silently pressed his right hand onto the ground, and a blade of grass of Peacock Blue surreptitiously burrowed into the soil.

After integrating the Scattered Star Chrysanthemum, Peacock Blue had once more gotten longer. It was now around eight hundred meters. This just so happened to be the distance between Xia Fei’s location and the tent.

Like a sinister snake, Peacock Blue silently approached it underground. Suddenly, Xia Fei froze and then shivered.

“A law isolation barrier? Someone added defenses around the tent!” Xia Fei murmured.

Oro replied, “This is very normal. Those within the tent don’t want others to know what they’re talking about, so they’re using law power to block out any eavesdroppers and onlookers.”

Xia Fei said nothing. A law seal could prevent others from peeking in, but it could not stop Xia Fei’s Law of Primal Chaos.

*Whoosh~*

A weak pulse of Primal Chaos law force was sent through Peacock Blue’s blade of grass, and several seconds later, without anyone noticing, a tender green blade of grass had appeared on the left side of the tent. It was very weak, so weak that a light gust could blow it down. The conversation in the tent began to be relayed back into Xia Fei’s ears.

“We’ll be near Thundercrash Valley in another day’s time. As of now, no one has figured out our true goal yet.”

“When they do find out, it will be too late. Still, how do we explain it to them? After all, we haven’t run into any prey in these hills, and as time goes, they’ll start getting suspicious.”

“There’s nothing to worry about. Didn’t two warriors say that they spotted three pretty human girls entering the hills? Just say that we came over to chase those beautiful ladies. Not only are they pretty, they’re also carrying a lot of treasures! The brainless idiots with us will definitely believe this.”

Xia Fei closed his eyes as he pondered over the meaning of those words.

Suddenly, two creatures the size of flies flew up to him. As he took a closer look at them, he suddenly realized that they were actually two parrots?!
