The proctor turned to them . "We won't have enough time to record everything you guys say, especially if there was an incident . So, these crows will monitor you guys as you go through the forest . If you guys attempt foul plays, they will know and report it . They will also see how many demonic beasts you tamed, if any, so no point in trying to lie or anything . In fact, I will be getting your scores from them, not you guys . There's also no point in trying to bribe them, they won't take it . Don't try to tame them either, they're already contracted . If you try to bribe, tame or kill them, you will automatically be disqualified and immediately be escorted off school grounds, no need to continue with the test . Now, I'll a.s.sign you guys one of them . " She pointed to the first crow, the one wit the red pouch, then at the one in their group with the smallest number, as in the first person . "You will be getting him . " She went down the line like that: the second got the crow with the blue pouch, the third who was the girl that talked bad about Shen Tianyu got the green-pouched crow, the yellow-pouched one to the Shen Tianyu, and the silver one to the last person in the group .

"Alright . Now that you all have your monitors, please enter the forest . If you don't come out within a quarter of an incense stick, you will get a complete zero score and I'll come get you . If you get in serious trouble or injured, just ask the crows for help and the message will be sent to me through the contract . I'll help you get out of the forest but that would be considered a forfeit, so, be mindful of yourself and how you plant to complete this par tof the exam . " The proctor then stepped aside and ushered the group inside the forest . As they stepped in a single-filed line, she uttered once again . "Remember that injuring other applicants is forbidden and will result in disqualification . "

They all nodded absentmindedly as everyone prepared themselves for any encounters within the forest . Shen Tianyu was watching the girl in front of her in addition to her surroundings . 'These kinds of people won't be stupid enough to directly attack you or she wouldn't have made it so far . She'll probably lure a demonic beast and "accidentally" run into me or something . Well, this is just an exam and the proctor did say they didn't put many life-threatening demonic beasts in here, if any, so I should be fine even without Xue Lang . Speaking of him, he's been cultivating in the s.p.a.ce for a while . maybe I'll check on him when I get home tonight . ' Then, the group quickly disperseed when they pa.s.sed the first group of trees . Being in a group would just be detrimental to all of them so everyone tacitly agreed to split up . Whether another person pa.s.sed or not, had nothing to do with them after all, each ofr their own . In fact, it would be better if some of them, or everyone else, failed so they would have less compet.i.tion getting into the School . Some that were confiddent enough, went to find some demonic beasts to kill, others that were not as proud of their taming skills just went straight for the exit and were planning to linger aorund the exit before time was up to rack up some points . Of course, Shen Tianyu was in the former group . And as expected, so was the girl that had gossiped about her to her face . And she had the shamlessness to run alongside Shen Tianyu, trying to make a team with her .

"Hey, how about we team up? Two is better thna one and doesn't have the clunkiness of a group of five . We could alternate between claiming demonic beasts and rack up points faster . " She offered as she ran alongside the white and lilac clothed girl .

Without turning to look at her, Shen Tianyu merely asked her one question . "Do you think everyone is as dumb as you or are you just mentally deficient?" Then, she jumped onto the tree in front of her without stopping, as the former was running forward, unable to change her momentum in a short time, and shot past her with a stunned look on her face . Shen Tianyu then turned in a different direction and jumped on the tree branches to move towards the exit as she scanned below her for any signs of a demonic beast . 'Hmph, you just talked s.h.i.+t about me in a voice and place where I could hear everything you said, then you asked the proctor what woul happen if an applicant accidentally injured another . Your motives are as clear as day . Unfortunately, I don't have the time nor patience to play your games . If you want to fight then come straight at me, I'll beat you so badly even your own mother wouldn't be bale to recognize you . Really, these people, wasn't this country more liberal than others? Why does trying to make friends with someone have to translat eto seduction just because the guy has a high status? My status isn't any worse okay? I just don't want brainless parasites like you trying to glue yourselves onto me and use my name for your own greedy purposes . I worked so hard to build up Lavender Palace, Lotus Pavillion and Yaodu . What if you accidentally get the in trouble? That's a decade worth of effort there okay?!'

Abnormal footprints, signs of destruction, unusual fluctuations of spiritual power, the smell of blood, or dead carca.s.ses that were fed off of were all signs she was searching for as she jumped around the forest with the agility of a monkey . Some of the signs may just signify a fight but there was still a possibility the demonic beast managed to get away . In which case, they would be nearby and easy to tame . Not even halfway through the forest, Shen Tianyu found a dead deer carca.s.s in a small clearing along with slash marks marring the earth . She sniffed her nose to try to find any traces of a demonic beast that might have been left behind but only got a whiff of metal and rotting flesh . Wrinkling her nose, Shen Tianyu covered her nose with her hand and jumped down from the tree, deciding to search nearby on foot . The trees served as a canopy over the forest ground, meaning flying up to take a look around was not an option since it wasn't in the clearing . And besides, demonic beasts weren't stupid enough to stay at a place they were attacked unless they were too injured to move elsewhere . She first crouched down to inspect the marks on the ground to clearly get a depth and the power of the applicant that made them .

'Hm . . . there are a lot of gashes in the gound but they seem haphazard and shallow . They probably encountered the demonic beast by accident and tried to scare it off by swinging their sword around . If they were actually trying to catch it, there would at least be some gashes with a bit of uniformity and not all of them would be so shallow . But since they conveniently stumbled upon it, why didn't they take it down? They would have earned extra points . This is close to the entrance of the forest too so they couldn't have run out of time . And the proctor had said they didn't let loose any demonic beasts that would threaten their lives so it should have been easy . Well, anyways, the cuts on the demonic beast shouldn't be too bad since th gashes are so shallow . There's a lot of blood in the vicinity of the deer but that's probably just the deer's blood . There is a small trail of blood leading away from here though . '

Demonic beast taming wasn't about beating and killing demonic beasts but rather having them submit to a human . More often than not, force was used, including attacking the demonic beast until it was weak and offering some kind of strength boosting or healing medicine or pill . which was basically coercion but demonic beasts attacked humans and saw them as a source of food so they would usually never obediently submit anyways .

Shen Tianyu decided to follow the little trail of blood droplets and find the demonic beast . However, as she got closer to what seemed to be the source of the blood droplets, the stench of rotting flesh grew stronger to the point that she couldn't take it with her hands over her nose and mouth . She ended up directing some air from above the canopy of trees, where there was much less of the stench, and made it into an invisible, rotating mask covering the lower part of her face so she didn;t have to breathe in the terrible smell .  

When she finally stopped, seeing the giant demonic beast a few li in front of her, she finally understood the shallow gashes on the ground without any uniformity . She froze and thought to herself . 'Ah, the applicant that encountered this must have been a female . '0 . 5 km or 1/3 mile
