17 Chapter 17: Beavers Vs. Toreros, First Half

With an attendance of 11,284 people in the arena, the crowd is divided by brown Beavers and navy blue Toreros. Starting line-up for Beavers is point guard Wei Li, scoring guard Jayson Sy, small forward Matthew Della Torre, power forward Ryan Elmquist and center Traviss Haussler.

While for San Diego Toreros, the starting line-up is point guard Roy Morris, scoring guard Matt Delzell, small forward Jason Blair, power forward Corey Belser and their center Jason Keep. The official referees are Ted Valentine, Fran Connolly and John Heatly will be supervising tonight's game.

The players have entered the court; centers are ready on the circle for the jump ball and the chief referee Ted Valentine toss the ball in the air. The ball was able tap by Toreros Jason Keep but it was Traviss Haussler who able to secure the rebound, he then pa.s.ses to Wei Li and made a long pa.s.s to Jayson.

As Jayson was in the three-point area, he speed up and drives through to the basket when saw an opening, he quickly went for a lay-up but he was fouled by Roy Morris. Jayson activates "Formless Shot" after he got fouled, he shoot the ball in a falling motion and basket counted plus one free-throw and Jayson opens the scoring for Beavers.

17:56 in the game, Jayson use "Vice Claw" to grab the defensive rebound, he run like a lighting strike to the front-court and stop to the right wing corner. He then use "Long Range Shot" as he pulls-up a three-pointer with a Toreros player blocking his sight and a crisp sound was heard: "Swishes"; he then flex his biceps in front of Toreros' Matt Delzell and the lead has blown to 10-0 by Caltech Beavers.

San Diego Toreros Coach asks for a full time-out and Coach Brad Holland tried to calm the player as they huddle: "Let's slow down our pace on the offensive end guys, give the ball to Blair and Keep to capitalize our height advantage under the rim. If you're open, you have the green light to shoot and let's tighten our defense beyond the arc."

The Toreros finally be able to break their scoring drought in the 17:03 with a two-pointer lay-up from Jason Keep.

However, Beavers counter attack with a fly fast break by Jayson use "Full Court Pa.s.s" to the already running Matthew and he scored a two-handed dunk plus one free-throw. He roared in front of Toreros Jason Blair who was late in defensive end and the score ballooned to a 15-2 lead.

After a couple of minutes, Toreros able to score a two-pointer jumper from Roy Morris and they still trailed by eleven points. They continue to fight back with their own offensive wave by scoring another two-point jumper courtesy of Jason Keep in the low post and the score was 15-6 still in favored for Caltech Beavers.

Jayson use "Speed Up" to run a quick fast break to take advantage to the sloppy defense of Toreros. Along with Daniel Cullina, he pa.s.ses it to him who's in the left short scorner as his screen for Daniel and shots a two-pointer semi hook shot in low post.

Toreros called for another time-out, they tried to score after the break but got fouled eventually Beavers Christian Clanton. Toreros' Roy Morris made a one out of two free-throws and the score is 19-7.

Beavers had a five to nothing mini run and the score was getting bigger 24-7. Toreros also counterattack immediately with their own fast break lay-up and scored 24-9. Traviss Haussler fouled the Toreros center Jason Keep as they fight for the rebound and shot one out of two free-throws so the score was 24-10.

Caltech's offensive onslaught continued with a six to zero run, they able keeps their offense going and the lead was twenty points. The Toreros fight back, as they able to find their own rhythm with a six to none run with eight minutes left in the first half and the score was 30-16. Caltech Beavers requested for a full time-out but unable to convert this time and the shot clock expire.

The San Diego Toreros take advantage of this, they scored an eight to two run, the score was 30-26 and they only trailed by four points. Jayson took the ball from Wei Li in the half-court and he use "Long Range Shot" to shoot a deep three-point while being interfere by a Toreros player, he completed a four-point play and the score was 34-26 brought the lead to eight points with 5:08 left in the first help.

As the two teams exchanged blows, Caltech Beavers added only two points and the San Diego Toreros scored six points and the was 36–32. The Toreros was able to cut the Beavers lead to two points and the first half ended with a defensive rebound from Beavers.
